    -- “ hey, jess, ” kyle greets, hesitant at first.  he hates that, hates that everything since he’s gotten back to earth feels so freaking tense.  but kyle makes himself settle after a moment and he reaches out and pulls jessica into a hug.  he’ll be damned before he lets anyone or anything keep him from being himself with his friends.  “ i was hoping you could help me find hal.  i’ve been back for a couple days, but i haven’t gotten a chance to talk to him.  wanna see where that nutjob’s head is at, ” he jokes.

  -- earth is a mess, there’s no arguing that.  kyle wishes, desperately wishes, he was back under any other circumstances.  and yeah, okay he knows that to enjoy even a piece of it right now is terribly short-sighted and terrible.  and ??  okay, kyle’s missed earth.  he’s missed his home.  it’s weird, how the sun here feels different than any other sun he’s been under.  out of respect and some modicum of shame, kyle keeps the smile off his face.  but only barely.  he inhales deeply and rubs his tired eyes.   

       “ any chance you know where i can find hal ?? ” he asks cautiously.  “ figure we have some catching up to do. ”
