CALL FOR LGBTQ+ PARTICIPANTS (UK which may change in the future + online)
Hi! I’m a queer PhD researcher looking for LGBTQ+ participants for a study about fandom, queer representation, and fanfiction.
I’m interested in how queer audiences experience media tropes like: • queerbaiting • “bury your gays” • “cancel your gays” and how fandom/fanfiction responds to these narratives.
You can take part in ONE of two ways:
Option 1:
If you have written a fanfiction that’s fits the criteria or have read fanfiction that fits the criteria, come and take part in an interview discussing negative queer media tropes, such as queerbaiting, bury your gays or cancel your gays, discuss them impact they have and how fanfiction has helped!
Option 2:
Write a short piece of fanfiction inspired by one of these tropes. It can be very short — it does NOT need to be polished or “good,” and no prior writing experience is needed.
You’ll take part in a short interview before and after the writing task. Everything is anonymous, and you choose whether anything you write is ever shared beyond the study. Whilst also taking part in an interview before and after you have written it!
