guys I know this is a monkees account but I'd like to share my theory for the Tommy (1975) The Rocky Horror Picture Show(1975) Phantom of The Paradise(1974) extended universe theory
spoilers for all movies below!!
we're starting with Tommy. at the end of the movie we see Tommy's journey through nature. up until the last year of his life (likely less,depending on how long of a time frame you think the second part of the movie spans across) Tommy was deaf,mute and blind. he had to rely solely on the people around him due to his disabilities.
Tommy seems to have a warped perception of the world around him due to his circumstances; he got rich and famous basically overnight for being cracked at pinball,and as soon as he regained his senses his parents coddled him and created a MASSIVE summer camp on a whim beacuse that's what he wanted.
even regardless of this,there's not a single chance a half naked man with no food supply or shelter could survive in the wilderness for long.
Tommy wanders through the wilderness into the woods,eventually starving on the doorstep of Frank'n'furter's castle.
Riff Raff and Magenta bring him to Frank to see what they could do with him,and Frank decides he has potential.
due to the starvation,Tommy's brain has shrunk to a point where it's basically unusable,so he gives him half of Eddie's brain,and thus he becomes Rocky.
(now it gets a bit crack-y,please suspend your disbelief in case you haven't so far.)
the movie happens like normal... almost.
Frank and Columbia die,but Rocky doesn't. Rocky goes unconscious and gets buried in the rubble.
COINCIDENTLY Swan looks for an ideal person to turn into a pop/rock sensation,and as we know Swan isn't exactly limited by mortality OR morality. he finds poor Rocky, injured and brain damaged,and decides to take advantage of that to turn him into Beef.
how exactly? a contract.
Rocky only has half of a brain and cannot speak. but whenever he sang (sword of democles) he sang of wanting freedom,of being caught between a rock(ha ha) and a hard place.
so he signs the contract,now able to express himself in speech and style.
