Things I’ve Learned While Working at a Witch Shop
1. Book piracy is a huge problem in the Witchcraft/New Age community. Most of these authors have to work several different jobs, writing is not their main source of income. Sadly, Witchcraft books are one of the most pirated and stolen genres.
2. Moldavite has been in such a high demand that the miners cannot find any in the Czech Republic. It’s impossible to get it from any of the approved wholesalers. Also, there are gangs of illegal miners forming in the Czech Republic, tearing up the land to try and mine this gem for the western market.
3. Everyone wants to smoke every single herb on the shelf. Smoking roses is gross, try mullein instead.
4. You have to explain to a surprising amount of customers not to put malachite into their drinking water.
5. You have to explain to a surprising amount of customers that healing crystals will not cure their cancer.
6. Debunking witchtok has become a full-time job.
7. Working in spiritual services can really burn you out. I’ve had to up the amount of grounding and cleansing of my auric body damn near tenfold.
8. Gen Z is so damn curious, they are the best, most fun customers coming through the door.
9. “HOLY SHIT WHY IS THIS SO EXPENSIVE?!” is something that I hear on a daily basis when selling people moldavite and herkimer diamonds.
10. I’ve met no less than a dozen women who believe that they were Cleopatra in a past life.
11. I’ve met no less than a dozen men who believe that they were Aleister Crowley in a past life.
12. Take the chance to talk to as many other practitioners as possible, it’s the quickest way to broaden your views and knowledge on witchcraft. Even the practitioners who sound like they’re full of shit, you’re learning discernment.
