Attempting to announce tournaments before they start
@tournament-announcer
I created this blog after I missed too many fun tournaments because they are announced all over the place. This blog attempts to centralise them. Icon by juicy_fish on Freepik
Do you also have the problem that you only come across fun tournaments once they've reached the semi-finals or worse? Or that you have the perfect candidate to submit but the submission period closed 3 months ago? I made this blog to try and fix that problem.
The idea is that tournament runners only have to tag this blog, so that I can reblog their announcement post, to gain traction and that tournament enjoyers only have to follow this blog to see all the new tournament announcements.
If you have a tournament idea and want to know if it has been done yet, or if you want to find tournaments that have started longer ago, @tournamentdirectory is the better place for you.
If you want to promote your non-tournament poll-blog or are looking for non-tournament poll-blogs check out @nontournamentpolladvertiser
This is a bracket for books with no or very low romantic content, that aren't just for kids. Why? Because it can be really hard to find books that fit that brief, even for the mod (a trained librarian!) This tournament will highlight some gen reads, and at the end, all submissions will be added to a Google spreadsheet, which will be posted on this blog and left up for community reference and romance-free book recommendations.
Define "gen"?
In fanfiction, a gen fic is a story that focuses on something other than sex or romance. For the purposes of this tournament, any book with no or minimal focus on romance (i.e. background pairings but no romantic plots or subplots) is fair game! Canonically aro and/or ace characters are a bonus but not necessary.
What should I submit?
Any book or book series (audiobooks, ebooks, comics and graphic novels included), fiction poetry and biography, any and all genres, as long as it is romance-free or otherwise fits under the label of "gen"! You may submit as many titles as you'd like, but please for the sake of the mod's inbox limit yourself to submitting each individual title only once.
Can I submit propaganda for my favorite gen read?
YES! Propaganda is encouraged! This is first and foremost an excuse to crowdsource book recommendations for gen readers! I'm not going to completely ban anti-propaganda (defined as criticizing a competitor to promote your own favorite book), but please keep it in the spirit of friendly rivalry or I will be forced to revise that policy.
Additional aromantic and gen book-finding resources under the cut:
Helloooo! You can call me Mod Wurli (he/him she/her). Some may remember me from @bestsynthtourney. And I'm back for another tournament!
This one is set to decide what the best outfit worn by a musician/band is. I'm only accepting google form submissions (link: https://forms.gle/K44Au6oGkc95Cceo6 ) since it's easier to manage/standardise. :-)
Submissions will be open until at least August 5th, and will close after that when I think there are enough. My goal is at least 80 submissions.
When submitting, please follow the rules and guidelines below. If there are any questions/suggestions, please don't hesitate to ask!
Solo musicians, individual band members, and bands as a whole are allowed.
You are allowed to submit the same act multiple times if they are wearing a different outfit.
If you are submitting an individual in a band (e.g. submitting JUST Paul McCartney in a picture with the Beatles, or Beatles-era Paul McCartney on his own), you must name both the individual and the band name. Please also specify which person you are submitting (e.g. "2nd from the left")
The focus is on the clothes and accessories they are wearing, and not their physical appearance/personality etc...
It must be clear that the act is dressed up for their stage gimmick, and not just in casual/everyday clothes. Submissions will be counted if the stage gimmick is casual clothes (e.g. Weezer)
There's no date limit for this, but the pictures do have to be photographs. So, while you could submit a photo of Ella Fitzgerald, you could not submit a painting, illustration, or portrait of her. Thus, AI pictures are not allowed.
Sources of photos include (but are not limited to): screenshots from filmed live shows, professional and amateur live photography, screenshots from interviews/other filmed events, professional and amateur photoshoots, etc...
We will be doing Best Instances of Bending Time/Reality to save someone!
It can be just some person saving everyone or a literal god intervening.
This can be about everyone being saved or just one person.
Just because it saved someone, doesn't mean it has to be positive. It can be the villain desperately saving a loved one. Technically Thanos wiping out half the universe fits the criteria
Unsuccessful attempts can also be submitted if anyone thinks they are cool enough
Join us this summer for our large Magical Beings Tournament where we ask for help determining the best magical creation Disney has enchanted!
Any being that has magical abilities qualifies for this tournament! That's animal, person, plant, or object. Animals who speak because they're the focus of an animal-centric story don't count. (Sorry Lady and Todd)
Join us this summer for our large Magical Beings Tournament where we ask for help determining the best magical creation Disney has enchanted
To add a few more clarifications:
This is a Disney blog and thus every nomination has to be a Disney creation, luckily we take a broad view of this media empire and will allow nominations from the various subsidiaries so long as Disney owned them at the time the character is used. As for Star Wars specifically: we will count using the Force as magical abilities. Space Wizards post 2014 for the win!
We are trying not to be too picky but would prefer something with sentience over an enchanted object and a character with magical abilities over someone merely transformed. But submit them all and we'll see what lines we're drawing later based on popularity/support.
If there are multiple versions of your character (like The Blue Fairy) we do recommend telling us which version, other wise we will default to the one we are most familiar with.
One change is that winners of previous tournaments who qualify will be guaranteed a spot! Which is only two: Emperor Belos (Halloween Villain, 'The Owl House') and Tinker Bell (Favorite Fairy, 'Peter Pan' 1953). But feel free to submit them for propaganda purposes and as we are planning to do a seeding for the bracket. And submit anyone else from previous brackets too!
You are free to submit as many unique forms as you want, please don't spam us with the same request. If we suspect this is happening we will disqualify the entry.
We are looking for 'the best' but that's really up to how you want to define it. It can be the strongest, the most popular, morality, your favorite, the longest screen time, the most logical power lore, or even something non-magically related--whatever your heart desires!
Our hope is that we have a full length tournament this time. For that we require 32 spots filled, but we would like at least 64. Each round will use 1 week polls. If we do not get this level of interest, we may change the structure.
Because we are basically on a bit of a break at the moment, we are not checking the submissions regularly. As a result the form will remain open for a while, likely to early July. If you have questions about who/what qualifies we may not get a chance to answer them so please err on the side of submitting with a defense. We will have scheduled reminders and will also let you know with a warning before we close.
Banner Projects: Godmothered, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia, Narnia, Doctor Strange, Coco, Mary Poppins, Pirates of the Caribbean, Aladdin, Tangled, Beauty and the Beast, The Princess and the Frog, Twitches, Kingdom Hearts, Hercules, Alice in Wonderland, Elena of Avalor, Disney Fairies, Star Wars
We are planning to keep this form open for about 4 more days to more variety of submissions. This way we can have a tournament plan (maybe bracket) to share next weekend.
At this point, I feel like you guys might have caught on to what kind of animals my tournaments are based on, so let's not be coy about it this time. Our next tournament will be...
The Best Fictional Lizard Tournament, otherwise known as the Zaurnament!
I don't think we really need any further explanation, but just to cover my bases, this tournament will obviously consist of fictional lizards; things like geckos, chameleons, iguana, monitor lizards, and so on!
For clarity, note that dinosaurs and salamanders are NOT lizards at all (though the mythical salamander may be, depending on depiction!). Dimetrodon is also not even a reptile and thus certainly not a lizard! And finally, for our purposes, dragons will also NOT be counted as lizards even if they lack wings!
Also, I don't think there's any fictional tuatara, but if so, I WILL allow that simply because tuatara won't fit anywhere else in my tournaments!
Not fully sure if there will be brackets or not, I'll have to see how the candidates are spread out, but I'm currently not envisioning any brackets! Anyway, stay tuned for when submissions open, probably within the next week or so! Or not, if I suddenly lose steam. Anyway, details rules to follow; submissions to open soon! Probably.
@tournament-announcer thanks in advance as always!
Returning voters, this will look a little different than the previous tournaments. But also, a little similar.
Rules this season
I think the easiest way to explain this is round by round:
Round 1: all 25 characters will be randomly seeded in 5 polls of 5. The top 2 from each poll, as well as the top 6 wild cards across all polls, will move on to the winners bracket.
If we need any tiebreakers, they will happen here.
Round L1: the other 9 players who did not make the winners bracket will compete in 3 polls of 3.
Round L2: the 3 losers of L1 will compete in a single poll. The loser of that poll will take 25th place.
Round W1: the 16 players in the winners bracket will be randomly seeded and compete in 8 matchups. The winners will move on, the losers will each randomly match up with one of the 8 players left in the losers bracket.
After that, we will alternate using this pattern:
Losers Bracket round matching up the winners of the last losers bracket round vs the losers of the last winners bracket round
Losers Bracket round matching up the winners of the last losers bracket round
Winners bracket round matching up the winners of the last winners bracket round
Once a player loses in the losers bracket, they will be eliminated and revealed.
This is a tournament to find Tumblr's favourite Pokemon design!
This is entirely about their visual appearances, not which Pokemon you like best in general - there's no hard and fast rule about voting criteria, but some things to consider could include how aesthetically appealing they are, how cohesive they are, how well they represent the Pokemon's type if at all, how well they convey the Pokemon's abilities or background, the colour palette, how recognisable they are, how unique the silhouette is... you get the idea! Their types and most recent Pokedex entry will be included in the post to give some helpful context you could use.
What will be included:
Every base Pokemon, from all stages of their evolutionary line
Regional variants
What won't be included for now:
Mega Evolutions
Shinies
Huge huge shoutout to @character-design-tournament - I initially got this idea as they were looking to host something like this, but had said it might be too extensive for their blog with the sheer number of Pokemon there are. They were kind enough to let me take the idea and run with it, as well as give me tips on how to run a tournament and answer questions! Go give them a follow if you haven't yet <3
Propaganda is optional, but there's no need to submit Pokemon or anything - all will be included by default.
I'll probably kick off the tournament in a week or so, once people have had a chance to follow!
Okay I was gonna make a separate blog for it, but I don't wanna do all the setting up stuff, so:
I am proud to announce:
The noir detectives tournament!
And also characters that are just film noir coded and not from classic film noir (for example, Juno Steel) or even actual detectives (my baby The Obituary Writer).
Submissions can be done through the ask box. I need the name of the character and the media they're from, images of them and/or propaganda are not necessary but appreciated.
How the fuck do I make people notice this one. Who do I @, what do I tag. @tournament-announcer I suppose!
This a tournament dedicated to romance options in video games and visual novels, inspired by seeing so many over on @lgbtcharactertournament and @character-design-tournament!
All kinds of games are allowed here, whether they're entirely romance-focused dating sim visual novels or big open-world RPGs with optional romance routes.
You can submit a character at the Google Form link here! One character per form submission, but feel free to fill it out as many times as you like for different characters, there are no limits. Go wild and send in every single option from every game you've played if you like!
The submission deadline will be announced once I have a feel for the number of submissions and level of interest.
Any other questions are welcome in the askbox! Enjoy <3
