World-renowned neurologist and author Oliver Sacks does New York mag’s 21 Questions: Here are five:
Who’s your favorite New Yorker, living or dead, real or fictional? Bob Silvers, founder and editor of The New York Review of Books, one of the great institutions of intellectual life here or anywhere. What’s the best meal you’ve eaten in New York? The annual herring-fest put on by Russ & Daughters when the Holland New Catch comes in each spring. In one sentence, what do you actually do all day in your job? I see patients, think, and write. Where do you go to be alone? The New York Botanical Garden. I especially like the old-growth forest there; few people realize that the garden includes 50 acres of woodlands that have never been cut — probably the only virgin forest left in the city. It gives you an idea of what the whole place might have looked like before the Europeans arrived. What makes someone a New Yorker? The inability to leave New York.
He’ll be discussing longevity with Pulitzer Prize-winner Jonathan Weiner at 92Y on Feb 10.
I'm trying this on the subway tonight so watch out downtown 3 express!
“Go out to a park, train station or other busy area. Practice placing an intention into individuals until you can successfully and easily place an intention into or on a Being and/or a body.” -- New Yorker
