Saved - Poe Dameron x Reader
You saw the aircraft fall out of the sky. It looked just like the ones you had seen in your books. That’s how you knew what it was and they are usually driven by someone. And now that someone was probably hurt, so you sprinted towards where the air ship had fallen.
Smoke billowed out of the metal ship. The glass of the – clock pit, was it? – was cracked and you were able to pry it open to get at the person inside. It was a human man. A handsome human man. An unconscious, handsome, human man. After trying and failing to wake him, you managed to pull his limp body from the clock pit. You tried to lift him to carry him back home, but his dead weight fell on you and you couldn’t even stand. So you tried to drag him. Still too heavy.
With a huff you sat on the ground and considered your options. Then you had an idea. With a burst of confidence you stood up and pulled some string out of your pack. You found some good strong sticks and fastened them together with the string. Then you took the bottom of the man’s jacket and put the string through the button holes and then tied that to one of the sticks. Then, with the other sticks that were fastened perpendicular to the one holding the jacket, you were able to pull the man through the forest to your cave with ease.
When you got back to your home – a cave that you had spent the last few years fortifying and making cozy – you were able to assess the man for injuries. Other than the bump on the head, he had a dislocated shoulder and a nasty gash on his thigh. You went to work undressing him to treat his wounds. As you peeled the fabric off of him, you couldn’t help but blush. This mans body was absolutely stunning. You pushed those thoughts aside as you consentrated on saving his life.
“Thank goodness he is already knocked out, this is gonna hurt.” You thought to yourself as you pushed the mans shoulder back into place with a loud crack. After bandaging up his shoulder and chest to stabilize them you set to work cleaning and stitching up his leg wound. After that was bandaged up you got some water from your well to wash the sweat away from his body so he wouldn’t catch a cold.
It had been almost a whole day before the man started to come to. He was obviously groggy and incoherent. You had some milk in a jar that you had gotten from the village. You helped him prop up his head so that he could take a few sips of it. You didn’t want him to dehydrate, and the milk would provide extra nutrition. You managed to get him to take a couple of sips before you put his head back down and he went back to sleep.
The next morning you were changing the dressing on the mans leg when you looked up and noticed his eyes were open again. You smiled and said, “Good morning.” You reached for the jar of milk before crawling up to his head, lifting it slightly so he could drink. “It’s milk.” You clarified when he gave you a questioning look like he didn’t trust you. You sighed defeatedly and took a sip of it yourself to show that there was nothing wrong with it. You moved the jar back to him and he sipped it slowly. After a few solid sips he put his head back down and fell back asleep. Satisfied that he would be fine alone for an hour or so, you went about your usual activities.
Foraging for food alone was sometimes difficult. Forging for food for two alone was definitely difficult. You found some berries and wild potatoes and carrots. While you foraged you also picked up some more wood for the fire and set some of your animal traps. You came back an hour or so later and lifted the mans head again, waking him from his sleep, to make him drink a little bit more milk. After that you went back to check your traps and found that you had caught a wild pheasant. You brought it back and prepared it to boil with the carrots and potatoes to make a soup.
You were washing the mans body again, unabashedly taking in all of his gorgeous features when you felt a hand on your arm. You looked to his face to see him looking back at you. You heard a murmer come from him that you couldn’t properly hear. You leaned your head close to his so that your ear was next to his mouth.
“Thirsty.” The man breathed out. You ran to the other side of him where the milk was sitting and helped him to sip it slowly. Four gulps later he put his head down, sighed, and murmered something else. You leaned your ear to his mouth again, “What was that?” You asked.
“Thank you.” He whispered. This warmed your heart and made you grin from ear to ear. You turned to look at him and stroked the hair off of his forehead. “You’re welcome, handsome.” You replied and then went back to make your soup.
Hours later, when the soup was done, you heard the man groan. Turning around, you saw the man trying to sit up in the bed. You rushed to his side, helping him to prop himself against the wall.
“Thank you.” He groaned out again.
“You’re welcome.” You grabbed the cold cloth and dabbed the sweat from his face and neck. “Would you like some soup?”
“Yes, please,” he heaved out, still out of breath from trying to sit up. You went back to the pot over the fire. As you prepared a bowl for him you explained what had happened; that he was in an accident, you found him, helped his injuries, and told him not to move his arm too much. You brought a bowl of soup and held it in front of him while he took the spoon to eat.
“I’m Poe.” He said as he took a mouthful of carrot.
You grinned at him, “I’m Y/N.” you gave your name.
“Well, again, thank you, Y/N, for everything.” He said taking another mouthful. You shrugged.
“I couldn’t just let you die. If you’d have been left in the clock pit the animals would have gotten to you.”
Poe stopped mid mouthful and looked at you with a silly grin on his face. It made you blush.
“What?!” you asked again.
“It’s cockpit.” He laughed. Your face went all shades of red. You looked to the ground to hide your face but you felt his hand on your cheek, urging you to look up at him once more.
“Can I ask you some questions?” he asked sweetly. You nodded. “Where am I?”
“How long have I been here?”
Who did know he was here? Was he able to call for help before he crashed? Did the people who attacked him follow him here? All you could do was shrug. As far as you knew, the only people who knew he was here, let alone alive, were you and him.
“You wouldn’t happen to have a radio?” he asked, mildly scoffing at his own question. “Just the one in your plane.” You had meant it to be a joke.
“Y/N,” Poe said earnestly, putting a hand under your chin to get you to look at him, “Y/N, I need you to go get the radio from my plane. Its square, with a silver lever looking bit and an orange button.”
You lost yourself in his warm brown eyes. You wanted desperately to make him happy. But another part of you enjoyed having him around so much that you didn’t want him to leave. You loved the way he made you blush and your heart race. You wanted him to stay with you… What if you didn’t bring back all of the parts to the radio? He would think that you brought back what you could from the wreckage. So you nodded and stood up. He grabbed your hand and squeezed it affectionately, making your heart beat a million times a minute. “Thank you, Y/N, really.” He smiled a smile that gave you palpatations and made your ladybits tingle. You just nodded before turning and leaving.
It was already dusk. Much too late to be leaving the safety of the cave. But you would risk it to see Poe smile at you like that again. You grabbed the lantern that hung outside your cave and took it with you as you trudged through the woods towards the site of the crash. Every sound made you jump. Every snap of the trees had you gripping your knife even tighter. But what made your stomach nearly fall out of your butt was the presence of a group of white armoured soldier types in front of the crash. They were numerous and they had guns.
Blowing your lantern out, you circled around the permiter of the area to where there weren’t any soldiers. Quietly making your way to the ship, you hid behind its back end that stuck up out of the ground. You looked around to see how you could get into the clock pit – cockpit! – without being seen. It looked like two of the white soldiers were guarding the wreck while the others searched the area for its survivor, if any. While you were trying to formulate a plan, karma stepped in to lend a helping hand.
There was a low growl from the bushes and the snapping of twigs. Some of the soldiers started yelling and then you heard their blasters fire. The familiar catterwhol of a jagular[1] rang through the forest as all of the other white soldiers ran to the scene. You took this opportunity to jump into the clock – cockpit and grab the radio device that Poe had described to you, and then you jumped out of the plane and high-tailed it towards home.
Part of the way there, after the adrenaline had worn off, you stopped dead in your tracks. In your hands you held all of the pieces of the radio. It would be so easy to just leave part of it behind. Could you do that though? Could you sabotage his rescue? But you didn’t want him to leave. You wanted him to stay with you. To keep looking at you so endearingly that you knew from the moment your eyes met his that you would love him. Could you do that to someone you loved? You started back home with all of the pieces of the radio in your hands.
You were almost at your cave when you heard the sound of claws scratching the trees. Your heart dropped. Scythant[2]. And you didn’t have your lantern to see it coming. You spun around, taking out your knife, readying yourself for its attack. Then you hear its chirp and the wisp of it jumping from the tree towards you. You didn’t see the scythant until it was right in front of you. You swiped it out of the path of your face, causing a gash in your upper arm. You managed to grab the animal by the throat and shove your knife through its heart.
‘Well,” you thought as the pain seared through your arm, “at least we have more meat now.’ You put your knife away, tied the scythant carcass to your pack, and picked up all of the radio pieces that you had dropped and went back to your cave.
You pulled the barbed door-block into the doorway and huffed out in relief that you were finally safe.
[1] Jagular: Terran beast, cat-like, much like earths jaguar with a long, barbed tail that it whips around like a chain-ball mace.
[2] Scythant: Terran creature, like earths flying squirrel but reptilian with scythe like arms that it uses to climb trees and attack its victims.
