Knowing what the next track is, you’re not sure if they are ready for it. What you do know is that they’re going to ask lots of questions that you can’t answer. You can warn Steve though. “This one is another punk one.” He nods. Take a deep breath, hit play.

“Honestly? Yes.” Natasha smacks his arm when he says that, giving you a knowing look. Wait, does she actually know who you wrote this about? Shit.
“Dad, don’t use FRIDAY please. I’ll tell you, but not right now. I’m still recording and I don’t want the whole internet to find out too.” He agrees and sits back down, but you can tell that he’s uncomfortable. You decide to put your foot down before any more music gets played.
“Okay, I love you guys, but you have to realize that I’m an adult. I’ve made decisions— not all of them were good, but they were my choices. I’ve been on dates, I have multiple exes. Some of those relationships ended on good terms, and other’s didn’t. I’m sorry you’re not happy learning about it this way, but I’m not sorry for living my life. If you seriously have a problem with it, we’ll stop here.”
You try to stay calm and assertive as you speak, but there’s a waver in your voice that everyone catches. Blood, sweat, and tears were put into these songs, and all you wanted to do was share them with the people important to you.
Sam sighs, being the first to respond. “We’re sorry, kid. It’s just… shit, we just feel guilty for not knowing and not helping you.”
“I didn’t need your help though.” You look at them all, eyes flicking from person to person. “Whenever something happened that I felt like I couldn’t handle on my own, I reached out. I got help from you guys when I needed it… But I dealt with a lot of stuff on my own, because I knew I could. I didn’t need everyone in the tower losing it over my first breakup, and I didn’t need anyone hunting down my ex for my last one. Everyone looks around. After a moment, your dad turns to you and nods, sitting back in his chair. Without saying anything else, you hit play.

Your dad turns to Pepper with his jaw dropped. “Wait— did you know?!”
Pepper just looks to you and laughs, causing you to grin too. “Of course I did. You know how a first breakup is; it’s hard and you feel like the world is ending. She begged me not to tell you, so I didn’t. After that, she was older and responsible enough to make her own decisions.” She smiles at you fondly.
Tony looks flabbergasted at the idea that she would ever keep something like this from him. Meanwhile, Natasha raises her hand. “I knew too. But not because she told me. I wasn’t supposed to know.”
Your eyes widen. “Please don’t name anyone.”
She laughs, but you can tell it’s not directed at you. It’s the betrayed faces that she finds hilarious. “Don’t worry, I can keep a secret.” Natasha winks, and you believe her.
“I can too. Sorry, I accidentally found out while training with my powers. I promise I didn’t tell anyone though.” Wanda looks to you, using her eyes to ask for forgiveness.
You smile at her. “It’s okay, I trust you.” Her face softens and she smiles back, clearly relieved to have that weight off of her shoulders.
Standing up, you turn off the camera that has been recording their reactions. “I think that was enough of this thing.” The others start to argue, but you hold up a hand. “Let’s be honest, this song was rough. It’s going to get worse, much worse… I don’t want a camera recording for that.”
“Maybe it’s not a bad idea for us to listen to the album on our own?” Steve pitches to the group. “Everyone processes things differently and in their own time. This way, we can be in our own spaces and can individually take however much time we need. Okay?”
You nod. “I agree with Steve. I’ll still be here for questions or you can call me to come talk to you. But I think it’ll be better this way.”

Lando and Y/n were F1’s favorite couple without actually being a couple. From specific touches to paparazzi pictures of their late night ice cream runs, the fans and media had fallen in love with the unspoken feelings shared between the two.
When the latter was mentioned to either of them, they shrugged it off, mumbling about it being funny and how it wasn’t true. However, no one missed the single, subtle glint in Lando’s eye that told a different story and the way Y/n’s cheeks tinged at the idea. Truthfully, it was a fun dance to watch, fans waiting patiently for the day the two woke up and realized what was shared between them.
The most ironic part, according to the fans, was the way in which they already acted like a couple with how attached at the hip they had come to be. The first time it became evident how the two acted toward each other when behind closed doors was during a random night out at a club, Lando being completely wasted while Y/n stood as his designated driver.
Videos and photos had leaked from goers of that establishment at that particular time. It was jaw dropping, really, the way in which Lando hung onto her like she was his life line. He had his arm slung around her shoulders as he leaned on her completely, his full body weight being held up by her small hands. She was drowning in him, limbs tangled around her, and all she did, instead of pout at the strength she was having to exert, was smile up at him and seemingly whisper funny things in his ear. He was giggling around her, laughing at her jokes before resting his head on her shoulder and shaking his head. It was clear her laughter wasn’t the product of her strategic words, rather a product of how drunk her best friend was. Usually when they went out, the roles would be switched. Lando would be the sober, designated driver while she slurred her words and clung to his arm. However, that night had been special, a Monaco podium just for him and his team. She was happy to let him lose himself, assuring him that she would figure him out, watch over him. Her heart had practically melted in her hands when he nodded and told her she was the only person he was comfortable putting the safety of himself in. Nonetheless, she had shaken it off, nodding like it meant nothing to her and the love she held for him, and moved on.
Well, at least tried to. Lando didn’t have to know she would revisit the sentence at night when she allowed her mind to dabble in the idea of him loving her back.
Their night had continued, cameras on them at every second. They were completely oblivious to it and that showed as Lando continued to grab at her hands, her waist, her shoulders, and everything else accessible to him. Countless amounts of photos being released to the public showing Y/n guiding Lando out of the club, a smile on both of their faces as he laid his head on top of hers. His eyes were closed and there was a blissful smile on his face, a picture that would become iconic and known widely throughout the F1 community.
That morning, when Lando woke up hungover and found Y/n asleep on his couch, he had opened his phone and found messages from fans on social media platforms asking why he had lied, told everyone his girlfriend was his best friend. He had sat, cluelessly, at his counter and scrolled through Twitter before stumbling across the photos of them together the night before.
He should’ve been mad, should’ve been annoyed that people had invaded on his night and made inferences about the relationship he shared with his best friend. But, he couldn’t.
Not when he was downloading the images and making them his Lock Screen, a picturesque example of the adoration he had for her.

The nap Lando had said he would be taking turning into an incrimination situation when he asked Y/n to lay with him. As it was a normal thing for them, she agreed, cuddling up next to him and on his chest with his hands wrapped securely around her waist. She wasn’t even tired, but the steady beat of his heart had sent her off quickly.
It had been intended to be a quick Power Nap, no more than twenty minutes. However, what was meant to be twenty minutes turned into an hour with the way the presence of the other lulled the best friends. And that sent Lando being late to the driver’s parade, drivers and staff members running around the paddock as they tried to find the British man. The reasons as to why they hadn’t checked his room first was lost on everyone when Daniel, Oscar, Alex, George, and Carlos stumbled into the small four walls and found the explanation to why Lando wasn’t answering his phone.
They giggled, phones flying out of their pockets quickly and snapping pictures of the couple. The sounds emitting from the group of boys woke Y/n up first, a low groan coming from her mouth as she wedged her eyes open and saw their antics. Her hand pressing on his chest as she sat up woke the other boy up, more chuckles exuding from the other drivers as Lando tightened his arms around her waist and forced her back to his body.
She went down with a huff as Lando kissed the top of her head lightly and whispered, but loud enough for everyone else in the room to hear, “Where are you going? Don’t leave yet.”
That, as gentle as it was supposed to be, set his group of friends off. Their howling made Lando jump into a seating position, Y/n falling off him in the process. He fawned over her, asking if she was okay and coaxing her back up to the spot beside him all while the other men bent over in laughter.
Daniel ripped Lando away from the room, screaming about how late he was for his appearance, but the haste was more toward the conversation the other nineteen drivers wanted to have on the bus.
“What the fuck are you doing, mate?” Carlos started as they all waved to the crowds, the same group of men standing together in a circle along with Fernando, Charles, Max, Lewis, and Pierre.
Lando shook his head, “I’m not following.”
Alex rolled his eyes and scoffed, “Of course, you aren’t. You never are.”
Lando reeled back, taking offense to his friend’s comment, “Hey! What the hell?”
Fernando chuckled at their dynamic before smiling mischievously at Lando, “You like her! You love her!”
The man targeted groaned and let his head fall to his hands as Fernando continued with Lewis joining in, “Lando loves Y/n! Lando loves Y/n! Lando and Y/n sittin’ in a tree! K-I-S-S-I-N-G! First comes love, second comes marriage, and third comes-”
Lando interrupted them, “Okay! I get it!”
Daniel nodded, a fake demeanor taking place, “Yeah, come on, guys. This is a serious matter. The topic of conversation shouldn’t be focused on them two. It should be focused on Lando and him putting on his big boy pants, asking the girl he’s so stupidly in love with out!”
Lando stood mouth agape as the group assembled in front of him started throwing out dating advice. It was only when he caught wind of Charles partaking that he snapped, “Charles, you go through women every three years like they have an expiration date. Who are you to talk?”
Suddenly, the boys went silent and then began hysterically laughing while shaking their heads. From an outside perspective, and the one that the public would take as reality when they saw it on video, it looked to be Lando feeling ousted from the other drivers as he stood there, a cold look on his face as the men around him laughed hard.
Nonetheless, as they calmed down, George spoke up, “No, but seriously, Lando, when are you going to put a stop to this nonsense?”
He looked helplessly at all of their expectant faces, “Can someone please tell me what the fuck you’re trying to get at?”
He was getting frustrated, that much was clear, but that proved quite hard for the other drivers to understand when it was so obvious to them.
Max eyed the others, “We’re talking about when you’re going to get together with Y/n? Enough with this game.”
Lando stared blankly back at them, “It’s not… a game. Y/n and I are just friends.”
Again, the drivers began to chuckle, the sounds stopping immediately when the boy seemed to be serious.
Oscar’s mouth fell open, hand coming to cover it, “Wait, you’re not fucking with us? You’re being serious right not?”
This teammate just huffed and slapped his hands against his thighs, “Yes! Now, can we be down with this?”
Pierre broke in, voicing the thoughts of everyone else, “Oh, fuck no! Not if that’s your answer.”
Lewis stepped in fully now, “Yeah, Lando, you have to be shitting us right now. There’s no way you’re just friends with that girl.”
Lando turned around, cutting off the conversation as he felt it begin to veer too close toward his real feelings. He mumbled something over his shoulder to them that seemed to get the message across, “This is none of your guys’ business.”

Lando’s screams were high pitched as him and Max, his other best friend, lost their game of COD. He banged his fists on his desk, yelling bloody murder as he stood up from his chair and opened the door.
“Y/N!” His ear-piercing yelp had her hopping off the couch and running down the hallway to him. When she got to the door, he yelled at her, “MAX JUST MADE US LOSE OUR GAME!”
At the notion of him being completely safe, completely unharmed and well, she smacked his arm, “LANDO NORRIS! DON’T SCREAM LIKE THAT AGAIN IF YOU AREN’T DYING! YOU FUCKING SCARED ME!”
His eyes immediately softened, seeing the way hers swam with lasting concern. His head tilted as he looked down at her, heart rate slowing as she stared back at him.
“Aww, I’m sorry, Y/n. I didn’t mean to. I’m fine, you know that.” He mumbled, hands grabbing her hips and pulling her into him. Their bodies sat just as the edge of the frame, giving the chat enough of a view to see the way he handled her so gently. They swooned for him, messages flying by about the way he rubbed his hands down her back, the way he let his cheek rest against her hair, how her hands clung to the material of his shirt, and everything in between. They couldn’t get enough, rabid for content, but Max spoiled it for them when he realized Lando had zoned out with her in the room, not understanding how open he was being about her and the “friendship” they had.
He cleared his throat, “Lando, coming back to the game?”
His best friend’s head whipped around and he was untangling himself from Y/n, taking large strides back to his set up and shaking his head quickly, curtly.
“Yeah, sorry.” His eyes were trained on the screen, but his ears strained to hear the girl’s next movements. When he heard her footsteps begin to retreat from the room, he turned around in his chair.
He looked at her with his green eyes, pleading silently, “Stay?”
How could she say no?

He truly didn’t know what he was doing. His brain was completely blank from the moment he got the call from Hermes, detailing how they had gotten a bag in that seemed to suit his preferences. His brain was completely blank as he drove down to the designer store and was led to the back, a private room for the moment he bought his best friend something that screamed ‘love of my life’.
He didn’t care, though. That’s what she was to him.
The room was incredibly quiet as the associate went back to get the bag. He twiddled his thumbs, knee bouncing up and down under the table, only intensifying when she walked back in.
Her cool, calm exterior did nothing to help him when she opened the box and presented him with the most beautiful handbag he had ever seen. When he first began this process, months and months ago, he had made a point of the bag being white with orange accents. He didn’t care about the size, knowing Y/n would love any, but he was incredibly particular on the color. He had rejected two bags before this with the fact that they weren’t the correct shade of white or orange. He had lost hope, truthfully, but when they had called him and told him it fit his conditions perfectly, he was elated.
He sat, air being taken from his lungs, as what he envisioned for her sat a foot away from him. The bag being all white, the purest color for a girl who had never done any wrong, and the small orange detailings, a papaya color for the girl who had supported the team throughout it all with no questions asked just for him, encapsulated everything he remembered her to be.
A woman who was the root of perfection and wholly loyal to the people she loved.
The associate smiled at him, “Everything you’ve ever wanted?”
He chuckled, snapping out of his haze, “Yeah, everything I’ve ever wanted for the girl I’m getting it for.”
Samantha, the associate, sat down across from him, “If you don’t mind me asking, I’m sorry if this crosses a boundary, but there’s nothing in the media saying you’re with someone. We’ve been at this for months and I’ve never seen you pictured with any girl that isn’t Y/n. Have you been seeing someone secretly?”
He looked at her, “You got it.”
Her eyebrows pulled together, “I don’t understand. What do you mean?”
“I’ve never been pictured with anyone who isn’t Y/n.”
It took her a moment to grasp his inferences and when she did, she smiled brightly at him, “Really?! I thought everybody and their mother was insane! I mean, I thought you two were together as well, but after so much time passing with nothing to show, I thought it was just fake news.”
Lando shook his head, “No, I’ve been in love with her for years.”
A silence passed for a moment before Samantha tried again, “So, this is for her? To tell her you love her?”
He nodded, cracking a joke, “Yeah, I just hope she gets the message.”
Lando would later come to think he jinxed himself with that comment.

“I have something for you.” He prepped as he watched her sit back in her chair, his hoodie lying loosely over her body as they lounged in her kitchen during dinner.
She nodded slowly, “Oh! I didn’t get you anything. Is there something to celebrate? Did I forget?”
He chuckled and shook his head at her frantic response, “No, you didn’t. This is just to… say how much I love you.”
He explained away the fact that she didn’t pick up on the inference by the fact that she hadn’t seen the gift yet. However, when he passed her the box, Hermes written over it and she just smiled lightly at him, he began to worry.
She gasped as the purse came into view and he thought the message had been clearly communicated, worries beginning to float away, “Is this a Birkin?!”
He nodded as they smiled at each other. She was beaming and he was so happy to be the source of it.
She squealed, taking it out softly and examining it before putting it back where it was and shutting the box. She ran over to him, throwing her arms over his body and falling onto his lap. He held her securely and anticipated the moment where she would lean in to kiss him. Yet, that never came.
“Thank you, Lando! This is amazing! You’re fucking insane! Thank you!” She hopped off him, swiping the box from the table and jutting off to her room, shutting the door loudly out of excitement.
He stared at the slab of wood. Had she just rejected him? It hadn’t felt like rejection, but, at the same time, it had when she didn’t even try to lean in. He thought she loved him back, yet she had slammed the door in his face when he told her.
He took the bedroom door shutting as a message that she didn’t feel the same way and left her apartment with a contradicting, soft shut of her front door.

Y/n showing up to the paddock with a new, clean, and pristine Birkin bag as a girl who made it known she was incredibly broke had a few eyebrows raising. Whispers floated throughout the event as people speculated Lando’s involvement, and in turn their potential relationship status change.
She wondered why people were staring at her, coming to the conclusion they were jealous of her new accessory, but the frantic faces of Alex’s Lily, Oscar’s Lily, and Carmen running up to her had her hesitating.
“When the fuck did this happen?! This is amazing Y/n! We’ve all been waiting for this day for forever!” Alex’s Lily stammered out, hands clasping her shoulders as she began to shake Y/n’s body.
The girls drooled over the purse as Y/n’s head cocked to the side, “You’ve been waiting for the day I got a Birkin bag to come for forever?”
They all drew back slowly, looking at her suspiciously. Carmen shook her head, “No, no. The day you and Lando got together!”
Y/n’s confusion furthered, “We aren’t together?”
They all stared at her.
Surely, she couldn’t be this stupid?
Oscar’s Lily tried again, “But, he got you a Birkin bag?”
Y/n nodded, “Okay, and? I don’t understand.”
Alex’s Lily groaned, “Y/n, do you not understand the significance behind getting someone a Birkin bag?”
“Yeah, I do!” She gave, the demeanor of the other girls shifting, relaxing.
“So, you’ll tell him you love him back today or when?” Carmen asked, tongue licking her lips as she waited for the information.
Yet, Y/n just continued to look at her, “Tell him I love him back?! Why would I do that?! He never told me that!”
The disconnect was nagging Alex’s Lily and she let her directness take hold of the conversation, “Y/n, do you not understand what it means to get someone a Birkin? It’s a sign of love! In order to get a Birkin, one has to be put on a list and go through months of trials to find the perfect one before committing to it. It’s an incredibly tedious process and you have to be very intricate with the things you request or else you’ll never find the bag you want. Your choices symbolize what you want that bag to represent. And based off the color scheme of yours, white being a symbol of purity, beauty and orange most likely representing McLaren, a team you love, it’s obvious Lando was trying to tell you that you’re the epitome of beautiful in his eyes and he loves the love you hold toward his chosen family. This bag was him telling you he loved you!”
The poor girl helplessly stood with her palms facing upward by her sides, “You got all of that from a bag?”
Carmen grabbed hold of the girl and shook her, “Do you know how much this bag costs?”
Y/n shrugged, “Yeah, like five hundred to a thousand dollars?”
The girls’ mouths fell open before they began to laugh loudly, Alex’s Lily waving her hand around, “Oh, love, how have you gotten on? That bag is, ballpark, seventy thousand dollars.”
Now, it was Y/n’s turn to stare at them with her mouth hanging open, “…what?”
All of them nodded, “Could be pushing a hundred thousand because of the orange accents. I’ve never seen those on a Birkin and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen all of them.” Carmen informed.
Y/n just coughed before turning around and scurrying off toward the big papaya building. They watched her retreating form, giggling at her and how oblivious she had been.
Oscar’s Lily just smiled at her flash of papaya, “I hope they aren’t that stupid when they begin dating.”

Y/n stormed into the hospitality of McLaren, eyes jumping from person to person with haste. When she found Lando, him sitting at a table with some engineers and Oscar, she stalked over.
“LANDO NORRIS! HOW MUCH DID THIS BAG COST?!” She yelled, fiery gaze meeting his as he just stared up at her.
Oscar and the engineers began to chuckle as he stood up and grabbed her elbow, “Let’s go talk somewhere private, yeah?”
He didn’t allow for an argument, dragging her over to an empty hallway before stopping and sighing, “Eighty-five thousand dollars.”
Her eyes practically fell out of her head, “HOLY SHIT! EIGHTY-FIVE THOU- TAKE IT BACK! I CAN’T ACCEPT THIS!”
Her brain was running overdrive and she didn’t think of how much it would hurt if she rejected something that cost this much, something he had put so much thought into, learning the hard way when his eyes sunk and he looked at her with deep despair.
He rubbed his face, “No, Y/n, that’s the entire point of it. It’s made for you.”
She took a deep breath, controlling herself before looking up at him, “How long did it take you to find this?”
He looked away, but she grabbed hold of his face and pulled him back, “Almost two years.” He mumbled to which she gasped.
“Lando, why didn’t you tell me?”
“I thought you knew!”
The truth hung in the air and, finally, it clicked for her. He thought she knew what he was trying to say with the gift, he thought she would understand the amount of love he was trying to let her in on, and she had shut the door in his face like she didn’t care. It all made sense now.
All she could do was set the bag down on the floor before wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him against her. She whispered in his ear, “I’m so sorry I didn’t pick up on it. I would’ve handled it so much differently if I had understood.”
At the wording, he pulled back slightly, hands stilling on her hips, “How would you have handled it differently?”
She smiled at him, lips centimeters away from his, “I would’ve told you I love you too.”
He mirrored her expression before his fingers lightly dung into her skin, forcing her body closer to his and giving her the hint. Finally, this time, she took it, leaning in and planting her lips on his. Her hands tangled in his hair as he continued to pull her closer, backing her into the wall behind them and deepening the kiss. The Birkin bag stayed below them, a reminder of how important actual words were when it came to important confessions like this one, and he continued to tilt his head to different sides every time they would pull back for breath. She felt his tongue explore her mouth, a feeling so foreign yet so comfortable and right, she wondered why it had taken them this long to come to terms with it all.
As vulgar as it was, they would’ve had sex right in that empty hallway if it wasn’t for the loud throat clearing that sounded surprisingly close to them. They parted, Lando’s lips smeared with pink tinted lipgloss, and turned their heads to find Oscar looking at them knowingly.
He began to walk past them, saying loudly for everyone in hospitality a few yards away to hear, “She finally understand the meaning of gifting someone a Birkin bag?”
Lando, responding with the same amount of volume, but adding an overwhelming amount of cockiness along with a small slap of her ass, said, “Hell yeah, she did!”

why am i like… tempted to write dimension 20 x reader fics?
(side note: by “dimension 20” i am not referring to the actual players themselves, but the characters. i said “dimension 20” as a generalization because i have seen multiple campaigns and would write for more than one of them, and they are all technically a part of the same umbrella show. i feel it is similar to saying “american horror story x reader fics” even though each season has it’s own storyline and the writer possibly wouldn’t write for all of them. i hope that makes sense)
i’ve seen a crown of candy, fantasy high, fantasy high: sophomore year, neverafter, and i’m currently over half way through a court of fey and flowers. obviously there are characters i wouldn’t write for in each campaign though (little red riding hood, pib, pinocchio, etc)

A/N: The poem and response in this came from Thomas Richardson’s “Gentleman’s Valentine Writer” which wasn’t actually published until 1828 but I needed ideas, okay? Also, I wrote this when Bridgerton was still the lead in the poll lol
Living beside the Bridgerton household had many advantages. Being close in age to Daphne gave you the perfect excuse to spend time with her. However, spending time with Daphne meant also spending time with the rest of her family, which allowed you to form a close bond with them all. One Bridgerton in particular being Benedict.
Benedict was a few years older than you, but within a perfectly reasonable range that made it acceptable for you to fancy him. How could you not? He was sweet and sensitive, but he had a playful side that brought joy any time you were fortunate enough to witness it. Although, you never dared to dream that Benedict might return your affections. You were the best friend of his younger sister, surely he would not think of you in that way.
Initially, you had been excited to be presented before the queen and sent out into society. But while Daphne had been deemed the season's incomparable, you had fallen into her shadow. You were happy to see your friend receive many visitors and gifts, but some days it would hurt to see a line of men outside her door while you waited in an empty sitting room.
Waking on Valentine's Day brought nothing but sorrow. It was only one month into the social season and you already felt that you were destined to become an old spinster. With no prospective husbands in sight, you would likely have to face a second season. You did not expect that you would receive any callers that day, yet you waited in your sitting room in a fine dress, as you did every other day. Your mother sat in a chair at the far end of the room, leisurely reading until something would happen.
Early into the day, your butler entered the room with a calling card in hand, "A Mister Bridgerton is here to call upon Miss Y/L/N."
"Send him in," You replied, feeling your chest constrict. It was possible that one of Daphne's brothers had come to pass along a message for her, but a gentleman visiting while you were accepting callers still brought you a shred of hope.
Moments later, you saw Benedict step through the doorway, holding something behind his back. He smiled, "I see I have gotten here before the rest."
You returned his smile, nervous, yet calmed by his presence. "I think you will find that the gentlemen are coming to your door today, not mine."
"Then they are fools and I am lucky to have you all to myself."
"What can I do for you, Benedict? I find it hard to believe you would be here as a suitor." You spoke the words in jest, but felt your throat tighten as you said them all the same.
Benedict's smile fell into confusion, "What is so hard to believe about that?"
Taken aback by the genuine confusion in his tone, you clarified, "I only mean to say that I would not have expected it."
"If that is the case, I hope that you find this to be a good surprise," For just a moment, you heard a bit of nerves in his voice as he tried to present a confident image. "Unfortunately, I cannot stay long. But I wanted to bring you these and to officially declare my affection."
Finally, Benedict moved the hand behind his back to reveal a beautiful bouquet of morning glory and myrtle. You smiled wide at the sight, "Thank you, Benedict. They're lovely."
Shortly after, Benedict had to take his leave, although he promised to come back the following day. Once he had left, you reached for a book on the language of flowers. You found that morning glories are used to represent affection, meanwhile myrtle is used to represent love and marriage. Learning that brought a blush to your cheeks, finding the meaning to be a little bold, but not unpleasant.
It was then that you noticed a small folded piece of parchment beside the flowers. When you unfolded the paper, you could see the painted design done in watercolors. A man and a woman stood beneath a tree, which was situated between a lovely cottage and a church. The image was small, but you could tell that the couple was you and Benedict. On the other side of the parchment was a simple note.
I boast not eloquence, dear Miss,
Nor do I write exceedingly fine;
Therefore, I bluntly ask you this--
Pray, will you be my Valentine?
As you looked down at the note, you felt your heart swell. You held it close to your chest, feeling as if you could burst from happiness at any moment. Your mother then looked up from her book. "What is that, dear?"
"It is nothing!" You responded quickly. Luckily, your mother did not push the issue further.
That night, you folded the note once more and placed it in the drawer of the nightstand beside your bed. As you attempted to fall asleep, all you could think of was that you could not wait to see Benedict again.
