That lil ninja in the grey is Jon.
The Grand Canyon….what can i say? words cannot describe its enormity. Pictures do no justice to this incredible wonder. It’s something you MUST see for yourself & SHOULD be on everyone bucket list. On July 2014 I had the opportunity to cross it off my ever growing bucket list. While on one of my many trips to Arizona( 5 to be exact) my “brotha from anotha motha”, Jon Laracuente, suggested that we go see the famous canyons.
I wonder how many McNuggets can fit in there?
I always thought the Grand Canyon was no more then a massive hole in the ground with water at the bottom. It was pretty cool and all, but i didn’t think much of it. HA! boy was i wrong, When you see the the vast openness for the first time, you honestly think its some kind of fakery, voodoo magic type optical illusion. Its like you’re looking at a gigantic picture, doesn’t even feel real. My mind couldn’t comprehend want i was seeing! You have to see it for yourself…ADD IT TO YOUR BUCKET LIST NOW!!!
Truly is like looking at a painting, it’s surreal
Like any sensible person i was on the hunt for the perfect picture. Who wants a boring, bland, just standing around smiling lame picture. I wanted something that said ” Damn this guy mean business?” And like we all know the only way to get such photographic genius, is the break the rules.
Booooooooring!
As you can see a fence separates me from my destiny. All over the walkway they put signs up warning visitors not to jump the fence for fear of falling to your death….blah ,blah, blah. Like a sign & fence ever stopped me.
Seemed like a few other people had my rebellious spirit. Including a middle aged women who was doing death defying yoga poses at the edge of the cliff! What was she trying to do…one up me?? Well i’m sure you can see where this is going…..One Up Challenge Accepted!
The money shot!
All in all it was a great trip. If you decide to go, here are a few tips:
1. This the most important one, BRING WATER
Especially in the summer, like I did. It gets real hot real quick, dehydration is not something you want to mess with.
2. Wear good walking shoes
I saw a lot of people in flip flops, i don’t know how they do it, but it looks miserable. You will be doing a lot of walking, be smart wear the proper shoes.
3. Don’t be afraid to go off the path a little.
You will get the best pictures that way. Please don’t go jumping off rocks and get yourself stranded. that’s not cool….really its not cool.
4. Bring a camera
This should be obvious.
5. Don’t be a jerk
Some places only one person at a time can take pictures. Don’t be a jerk and take 10 million selfies, while making everyone wait. Nobody has time for that.
6. Take the time to absorb
Make sure you’re not just taking pictures the whole time. Take some time sit down, rest, and absorb the scenery.
7. Wear sunscreen
If you don’t wear sunscreen, you’re going to get burnt up real quick. And who wants to walk around looking like a lobster anyways.
8. Take it easy
The canyons can go up to 7,000+ ft above sea level. I actually had a little trouble breathing near the end & pretty exhausted. Make sure you take your time and rest every once in a while.
9. Explore the scenic route
There is a scenic route you can take by car, if you’re not up to miles of walking. We decided to go for a bit & got to see some of the wildlife in the area. For city slickers like myself, it’s not something you get to see everyday.
10. Finally, have fun
I hope some how I’ve inspired you to go experience the Grand canyon. Like i said in the beginning it’s something everyone should see in their life time. Don’t just look at Youtube video or pictures, GO and see it for yourself. I plan to return again, this time i’ll be doing the hike down to the river. If any of you are interested let me know, maybe we can work something out.
Here are a few more pictures for you to enjoy.

27 years i’ve lived in Canada, yet this time of year never ever gets easier. Its near the end of February and March is around the corner, all my thoughts are of the upcoming beautiful spring season. But instead of temperatures leaning toward warmer side( one could only wish), it gets much colder and snows more…..it just doesn’t stop……it just keeps snowing STOP AHH!!!. Welcome, bienvenue, aloha, bienvenido, willkommen!
Thats all the “welcomes” i can think of or know — impressed? I know your are dont deny it! Well in exactly 38 days i will be embarking on what could possibly be the most amazing adventure of my life. Next month, i will be traveling thousands of miles to the beautiful, mysterious, magnificent Kingdom of Thailand.
If you’re wondering, “Why of all places are you going to Thailand?” Then im about to rock your world with my answer……because i can! BOOM MIND BLOWN! WORLD SHATTERED!! Ok ok the real reason why i am going is to be true to my New Years resolution and to get out of my comfort zone, explore, and see the rest of the world, other than my usual trip to the US.
Ill basically be treating this blog as my personal travel journal, so that later on i can look back and remember some crazy moments that i might have forgotten. Also to let my parents know im still alive. So that being said, if you’re one of the following: grammar nazis, sintex secret police, composition gestapo …etc. please refrain from correcting my every mistake, because there will be a lot of them….trust me.
There will be a few post before i leave highlighting my preparation for the trip, but most of them will be during my trip. I hope you enjoy my blog and follow me while im in Thailand.
Have an fantastic day & Keep it classy!
