Il penultimo giorno
In late February, I went to Edinburgh to visit a friend. Two weeks later, in early March, I returned to Bologna to pack my bags. In those two weeks, it had become frighteningly apparent that the coronavirus crisis was going to get much, much worse, and that we would not be allowed to stay. So, the day before my departure from Italy, I attempted to capture my complicated feelings for the city in photos. In retrospect, they express not only my peculiar sense of contentment and disappointment, but also the oppressive unawareness of a city on the precipice of catastrophe.

Whether love lasts a life,
Or whether it dies at the end of the night,
Tonight, you will be my treasure,
The extension of my body.
