7 Year Bitch was an American punk rock band from Seattle, Washington, active between 1990 and 1997. The band consisted of Selene Vigil (vocals), Valerie Agnew (drums), Stephanie Sargent (guitar) and Liz Davis (bass). Their career yielded three albums, and was impacted by the deaths of their guitarist Stefanie Sargent and close-friend Mia Zapata of fellow Seattle punks The Gits. The band, ironically given their name, lasted 7 years.

Sargent died of a heroin overdose on June 27, 1992, the same year their first album, Sick ‘Em, was released. Mia Zapata, vocalist of The Gits, was an influence on 7 Year Bitch, wrote the song, “Seaweed” about a time she, Sargent and another friend were swimming and got tangled up in some seaweed (this is referenced in The Gits documentary). Mia dedicated the song to Sargent at their last live show, June 27, 1993 at Jabberjaw in L.A. (Bratmobile opened for them that night). Ten days later while walking home on July 7, Mia was raped and murdered.

Really, she was fucking stolen from us and it still makes me angry that we live in a rape culture where women can’t freely and alone anytime of the day she wants to.
