BACKGROUND:
kiran lee is the eldest daughter of two very typical parents, they had no idea that kiran's life would turn out the way that it did. though, maybe they should have because kiran has always wanted to be the center of attention since she learned how to talk.
as a child, her parents pushed her to find what she was good at and enjoyed doing after school, something that she could put herself into. that was when she found her love of music. she took lessons, joined school groups, and started preforming. and she loved every second of it.
kiran was skilled from a young age but she didn't know what to do with it until after she graduated. with the blessing of her parents, kiran took a gap year to see if she could make it in the music industry. with the agreement that she could go to america and spend a year trying, if she failed, she would come home and go to universty and get a real job. well kiran always loved a challenge and she was not going to fail
one year turned into two and so on. she has been back home to visit her family but she never went back to finish schooling. she joined a couple short lived bands before falling in with an up and coming tiktok band, do not disturb. that was the first time she really felt like she was going to make it with this dream
after years of trying to make it big, they were finally signed with a real label, it was like a dream come true. that is until the label started to change them and direct them to be what the label wanted. kiran didn't like this, she was always a bit too hard to swallow, but when the label pushed harder, tensions started to grow in the band. eventually she was dropped from the band
she was both heartbroken and pissed the fuck off. both at the label and at her ex bandmates for not sticking up for her. when the opportunity came to join another band with the label, she took it. mostly because she didn't want to give up and go back home, but also as a way to prove that the label and do not disturb made a huge mistake by kicking her out
kiran's personally can be seen as very superficial and fake. she doesn't really talk about her feelings or anything deep. but she's so friendly and outgoing that you would never realize that you know nothing about her but she knows everything about you
she can be a little abrasive. she'll brush it off as cultural differences but really she just has little patience for things and can come off as rude
MEDIA INTERVIEW:
tell us about yourself! where are you from and what has your life been like before now?
Kiran leans back in her seat, an easy smile on her lips, this definitely isn’t the first time she’s had to introduce herself to the label of a new band but she will make it her own. “Hi, I’m Kiran Lee, I’m 30 years old, I’m from Melbourne, Australia but have been living in America for the past few years. I’m the eldest of two with two brilliant parents, who are probably happy all of my music lessons growing up are finally paying off. But you could get all of that just by googling me; I’m sure what you’re really here for is the juicy stuff. What I like, what I hate, what makes me tick; well, you’ll just have to wait and see.”
what are you most looking forward to on the tour?
Media interviews were always a fun little game of how much you can share without telling the truth before it turns into a flat out lie. Thankfully, Kiran had some practice from years of lying to her parents about the parties and shenanigans she definitely didn’t get up to when she was going up. “Is it a cop out to say the music? I mean come on, weeks of performing with some of the best up and coming queer bands is like a dream come true! I just can’t wait to see everyone and see what this tour has in store for all of us.” hopefully one of the bands crashing and burning to the ground before they even make it back to the US.
what inspired you to become a musician?
“Well my parents put me in music lessons as a kid, one of those old fashioned traditions of making your kids try a bunch of extra circulars until they find something they’re a genius at. I tried a few but music just came naturally to me. Classical piano, choir, orchestra; I loved it all, I loved performing and having the attention on me. It wasn’t until I was a teenager that I really started to find myself in music. Looking up to the great pop stars of the 2000s and 2010s, I knew that’s what I wanted to do. As I got older, I changed my sound a lot, joined bands that didn’t work out, got signed- and well,” she gives a fake sweet smile, “sometimes it takes awhile before you find a band and a sound that really works for you. Which is why I’m happy to announce that I’ll be joining Mulholland Drive on the Supernova tour this summer.”
what are the best and worst parts of fame?
“I think everyone would say the worst part is the lack of privacy, especially in the age of smart phones and social media. I mean, you can’t leave the house without cameras in your face and end up plastered online with comments being made about everything from your weight to the clothes you’re wearing to who you may or may not be dating.” Or in her case, the tabloids circulating every little detail of the past few months of her life since she was DUMPED by do not disturb and now why she has been hanging around the sister duo of Mulholland Drive. “But I will say, the best part are the fans. They make all of this worth it. I’ll never deny a selfie when asked politely, if you have a pen, I’ll sign something for you. I love making music but what I love more is seeing the fans feel themselves in the music.”
