working on a display near the front of the library, abel picks up a brightly colored book and flips it over to read the back, "are these faerie books any good?" he asks the nearest person, "everyone always wants to take them out, but i haven't gotten around to reading any... is it worth my time?"

"okay, need your honest thoughts and opinions," abel's laying on top of a table near the back of the library, ankles crossed and head turned to look at liberty, "psychics." he lets the world float between them for a second before he continues on, "full of shit or do they make some points?" he's never been to one, but he's always been a little curious, as he is about most things. "have you been to one?"
the lamp beside him is still on and the curtains are still open to the city outside, but abel feigns sleep, murmuring as if sleep talking, "marlowe... marlooooowe beware..." the act doesn't last long, though, one of his eyes cracking open to look at her and a smile cracking across his lips as he snickers, "just preparing you. in case the sleep talking rumors are, in fact, true." he props himself up on an elbow, grin just a bit jittery but warm all the same, "what're we getting up to tomorrow? catacombs? that one carnival museum? the vampire museum closed, i think, which is sad..." he hums, "or, i guess, classic stuff. the eiffel tower, the arc..."
The wave had looked a lot better from a distance. One second Theo was upright. The next, his board shot out from under him and he disappeared beneath a wall of whitewater.
A few moments later, he resurfaced and made his way back to shore, dripping wet and trying very hard to pretend that hadn't just happened. Spotting the unfortunate witness, he pointed at them. "You didn't see anything." The grin on his face ruined any chance of sounding serious. "Not a thing. And if you got that on video, I'm gonna need you to delete it immediately."
Abel looked up from his phone as Theo walked over, “Well, to be clear, I wasn't filming you. There was an osprey flying around up there. You just happened to be in the bottom corner of the shot.” He shrugged, “You wanna see the video? The osprey looks cool as hell. So cool you don't even really notice the wiping out thing.”

BACKGROUND
the youngest of the riley family, abel was always expected to succeed; his family was prominent in the community and everyone got into a prestigious line of work
the same was expected of abel, but he was... Different than most of his other family members, especially his siblings
he always had an interest in history and Weird Shit, this was only spurred on by summers spent at his grandfather's where he would run around the woods and spend time in his attic, looking at all the old family relics
he and his grandpa were also Absolutely sure that the house was haunted and abel spent many nights trying to find concrete proof
he was very smart and good in school BUT he had no interest in following in the footsteps of his family career-wise, something his dad was absolutely not happy about
when he graduated high school, he went on to study library science and history in college, his family thought maybe he would then use that history degree to pivot to law school but alas no, instead he is currently working as a librarian and working on getting his phd in history
