hshblair:
blair’s voice died in her throat. thirteen had been a very bad year of specialists and nos. even before trevor, she’d had a tiny plan in the back of her mind. adopt in two or three years. make her own little family, and that secret desire only got louder when she’d met trevor. she wheezed. struggled to catch her breath. the doctor dropped to her side. the doctor had her hand on her pulse, but she was fairly certain, without explanation, that she was having a panic attack. “this is the first time your…” blair finds her voice again, but it’s soft. “i can’t have children…” she’s fighting the false hope ot the noise. the heartbeat. the ultrasound technician arrives within minutes, finding the squirming little thing in less than a minute, thirteen weeks, measuring to size, strong heartbeat. she’s lost in her head when the gynecologist says the words rare but not impossible and that she’s most likely not showing because her pelvice is long, and her autoamune disorder has always made it hard for her to keep on weight. they’d have to make a follow up, and she was at higher risk, but right now, they had a healthy little one. unscathed from the accident. they were going to keep her for observation over night, and then they could go home. go home and get ready for a baby. she turned to stone premptively.
sitting beside his wife speechlessly as blair and the doctors chatted about everything that was happening, trevor sat completely lifeless in a state of dismay. as hard as he tried he couldn’t focus on the words being exchanged by his wife and the two medical professionals -- the sound of their child’s heartbeat made everything else seem faint. it was difficult to wrap his mind around the reality that he and blair had conceived an actual person. of course, they weren’t being careful -- the two hadn’t been using protection, but they were married and he thought them having a child was out of the picture. “mr. harris... are you alright?” the gynecologist questioned in a gentle tone, offering a reassuring squeeze to his shoulder which snapped him from his daydream state back to presence. “mrs. harris and the baby are both doing just fine dad... try not to worry.” she added handing him a picture of their unborn child. his thumb traced the outline on the sonogram, their beautiful miracle. when the doors closed leaving just the newly wedded couple trevor turned to blair and handed her the picture. “we’re having a baby...” he murmured as he brought her hand to his lips and left gentle kisses on each of her knuckles.
