i don’t like womens self defence videos

i don’t like seeing men teach women how to defend themselves against men, i don’t like men making money off the fact men just like them rape women so there is a market for them to teach self defence 

i don’t like that we share these videos about protecting ourselves from strange men as if most of us won’t be raped by intimate partners in situations where most people won’t identify the acts committed against us as rape, just “miscommunication”.

we know that strange men rape and kill women but we ignore the husbands and boyfriends and male friends because we don’t want to know about it. we want to say relationships are give and take, that there is an expectation of intimacy. we don’t want to say the men you marry or date or sleep with frequently or infrequently are predators. it’s easier if they’re all adrian bayley. 

we owe women the truth - the most dangerous time in your life is when you leave an intimate partner, or are pregnant. when my boyfriend raped me no amount of self defence videos could have stopped it. when a boy i was seeing casually attempted to fist me and made me bleed, self defence videos wouldn’t have made me able to stop him.

these men are selling women a lie and we raise them up as if they are some how better than the rest

these videos make me feel like a bad rape victim. like there are all these skills i should have had!! and if i had them i would have escaped!! 

but that’s not true, and i want you to know that. i want you to know that more often than not there is nothing you can do. and that is not your fault. and you are not wrong for having reacted how ever you reacted.
