Art Fight - Character : Lanauria

My last attack for art fight. I struggled a bit with coming up with an interesting concept for this character until I found these popteen/ retro-style magazines on pinterest and I thought... why not? Haha. I also really liked the colour palette that one of the magazines used so I used it too. I thought it could fit with the 'mean girl' personality... I just wanted to be able to draw the character more than once haha.

Through art fight, I discovered that I really love collage-type compositions with a bit of graphic design involved, as well as a vintage/ retro-style feeling.

Art Fight - Character : biscoff

Looking at the last few art fight characters I drew, I realised that I've been choosing non-human characters even though I all my OCs are mostly human haha. I guess I was drawn to characters that are very outside of my norm since I don't have other opportunities to draw such characters. Anyway, when I found out this character's name is Biscoff, I just had to draw her! Biscoff is one of my favourite biscuit/ flavour. I tried doing a... character dessert concept for this one, and on pinterest I found a lot of illustrated desserts and I was inspired by the ones that had more of a hand-drawn/ collage type style and composition.

Art Fight - Character : Ultrasoft Paint

I loved this character concept so much, so it was very easy to come up with ideas and decide on what I wanted to do. But execution was the most difficult. I think I redrew the full body about three - four times before finally settling. I also struggled with the colour palette and even now I'm a bit unsure about it, but I think it works! Symbolically, this one has to be my favourite. I think it's the most meaningful one I drew for art fight this year.

Art Fight - Character : Camellia

Initially, I was lost on what to do for this piece. But after taking a few key words from the character's bio and putting it through pinterest search... I fell into a rabbit hole of references and ideas that when I gathered everything onto pureref, the concept for the artwork started to click together! I think this is the piece that cemented how I will approach illustrations from now on.

Art Fight - Character : Ryumin

I'm so happy with how this one came out. I also stumbled into an art process that I developed in the duration of art fight, utilising Pureref (it is such a useful programme!!) I got a wee bit carried away with the rendering, and it's too neat for my liking. One day I hope I can successfully render in a rougher painting style.

Art Fight - Character : Illumi

This is my third year doing art fight (though I wouldn't count my first time much since I only drew once), and this year I went in with a purpose - rather than draw as many character portraits as possible, I wanted to experiment with colour and composition. I watched a lot of art videos this year, and I wanted to put what I learned into practice. Thanks to this I was able to create more completed-looking illustrations that I'm quite proud of. It made art fight way more fun too! (:
