Oliver says we can stop going to counseling now, yaaaaay
I think this is because he thinks things are better and not because I was mopey? I hope so anyway. We're gonna be married forever, we'd better do it right!

Oliver's started taking Catherine to the pool. As long as he stays near the steps, he can move around and still hold her. It's really cute, though she still doesn't like getting her face wet. She does like splashing, and being glided around through the water, and she loves her bathing suit.
My family sent me a Christmas card, I'm pretty sure just to make it clear that Beth's married now and there's nothing I can do about that. Since they don't usually do a card.
He has a nice smile, I guess, but that doesn't mean all that much about how he is as a person.
Not all of these songs are done yet but I have a tentative song lineup for the children's album.
When You Were My Age
Choosing
Apple Lullabye
String of Trains
Night My Child
The Procession of Stuffed Animals
Dandelion Round
I KNOW I can make Dandelion Round work but so far it's not quite clicking the way a round has to...
This song is never ever going to have enough conceptually similar songs to go on an album so I'm releasing it alone. It's called Sometimes The Bear Gets You. Buy it listen to it love it.
Symptoms of this song include "sometimes" not being a word any more.
Oliver is Against skipping counseling even when we have lots of other things to do so I guess we're going again...
Isn't it ironic that my biggest problem in my marriage is that my husband wants to eat two hours of just-us time (one hour session half hour drive each way!) getting counseling? I think that's kind of ironic.
"this is the one Catherine’s not allowed to hear until I’m dead" - what??
is that weird? There’s just some stuff I don’t want to have to explain to my kid that I do wanna process with music.
New album is up for download. It's called "Miracle Wave", which is not any of the songs' titles but is a lyric in one of them. Check it out! Buy it! Listen to it! Review it! I don't wanna graduate and discover I have to work at the convenience store!
Songs on this one:
You Break It You Buy It (this is the one Catherine's not allowed to hear until I'm dead)
Innocent World (mostly an imagery song, you could ignore the religious stuff if you squint, foreigners' dollars spend like everybody else's...)
Clock Tick (this is a new version with really different instrumentation, I think it's better)
The Things You Made (another cryptoreligious song)
Bewilder Me (I sing a version of this with different lyrics to Catherine sometimes, the tune's lullabye-esque, and that alternate version will probably make it to my eventual kids' album as "Consider Me")
Stave Off (pun song!)
Redden (album exclusive, never before heard by anyone but my teachers and my Oliver)
It's a little darker and crazier than my last album! Next up is gonna be that light fluffy kids' collection :)
Which is better:
I waited till I saw the sun, and like the sun I rose
I walked until the sun had set, and like the dawn I broke
or:
I waited till the sun appeared, I walked until it fell
And like the sun I never moved, I watched the planets twirl
?
(I know they don't quite rhyme, they're supposed to only not quite rhyme)
Or maybe I should just do both??? I'd have to restructure the chorus but I could...
Is everything alright?
yup!
How am I only just now learning that there's a parody of the Pippin song "Morning Glow" about Mormon glow??
Like, it's not the best parody ever but what a concept. And now it's stuck in my head and everything I write all week is gonna be infected with:
Mormon glow, Mormon glow, words of wisdom that we know, on our faces they will show, and keep our skin like new, Mormon glow, we know what's true~~
oh hahaha I should have guessed that was the thing that was threatening to get to be a problem yep
dunno what the counselor's gonna do about THAT
heck
The stuff about Sound Tsunami is cute. Also, you're a singer, can you explain how you tell if you're singing from your diaphragm? People say you're supposed to, but the words don't mean anything to me even when people point at where it is.
Breathe in and make your stomach go out at the same time. That’s basically it. Like, ideally you are making your stomach go out *by* breathing in, but you can get the hang of it just by making them happen at the same time without worrying about that. Then, keep your stomach out as long as you can while you sing.
Oliver wants to see a marriage counselor and I'm KIND of freaking out but he says it's like, nothing's wrong but that's the best time to see one, before anything's really wrong, so that nothing ever gets that way? And like, I didn't even think anything was really threatening to GET that way, but I guess I'll show up to the counseling and he'll explain why we're there then??? when am I going to have time to do my homework though? And we're gonna have to leave Catherine with her Grandma and Grandpa...
Patter for my next recital! Critique please!
Hi folks, my first song is "Rhapsody of Birds", and my co-creator is the phone game Sound Tsunami... yeah I play a LOT of Sound Tsunami and I got into the build-your-own-level creator and it was a really fun set of constraints, finding tunes that made good puzzles and also good music. This fully developed version would not work very well if you tried to do it in Sound Tsunami, I complicated it a heck of a lot, but that's where I got all the motifs. Here we go: Rhapsody of Birds...
Next up is "Stave Off", which is my little music pun. It's really self-referential, I practiced my diction a lot trying to make sure you'd understand all the lyrics, but there's a very fast bit in the middle and another at the end, so if our tech people can get the slideshow up - yeah, thanks - my page turner and slide clicker here, by the way, is Korey Maxwell, and he's working for free so please clap a little extra and he can pretend it's for him. Slideshow has the lyrics for this one...
Thanks Corey. My last song is called "Buttered Toast and Orange Juice" and we're going to dispense with the slide show for this one, it's much slower and doesn't have any wordplay and roughly twenty percent of the words can be found in the title. Accompanying me on the harp is Fiona Castle, and on drums is Ben Hansen; substituting for Glen Roberts, who is in the hospital, is Effie Lynden Wild, and she's been a real champ learning all of Glen's parts overnight...
Thanks everybody, and say a prayer for Glen!
I did not do all my homework...
...but I did pretty good on the test, I was surprised! So I'm probably okay. It's not a music class, I try really hard in those. The others I just have to pass!
I have
SO MUCH
homework this weekend
Catherine's booked for playdates at other people's houses but I was really hoping to get some alone time with Oliver and instead I'm going to be doing homework :(
I guess Oliver has homework too
but still :(
