I'm on season 6 of DS9 now and I really love the moment in the episode "Rocks and Shoals" when Garak momentarily tries to convince the Jem'Hadar he's on their side, but then his only response to them asking why he was wearing a Starfleet combadge if he wasn't working with them is, "Ah, I was hoping you weren't going to ask me about that." I feel like that tells you so much about his character. Yes he lies all the time but no he's not even necessarily all that good at it. He didn't have a response prepared to the most obvious possible follow-up question. He's flying by the seat of his pants with half the stories he comes up with.
