the only way this website is bearable is if you block everyone you dislike, like use that block button like no tomorrow. you think someones annoying or is leaving annoying comments on your posts? hell even just one annoying comment? block them. you think someones rude? block them. you just kinda dislike someone? block them. nobody is entitled to your internet space. we have the power to pick and choose which people interact with us on this site, unlike offline. utilize it! it is like, two clicks, it takes zero effort.
like i’ve blocked people for barely any reason at all. sometimes someone is just slightly annoying and your internet space would be slightly better if they couldn’t access it. blocking isn’t a big deal. its not a dramatic thing to do. its not a moral judgement on someone. its literally just utilizing a power unique to the internet. picking and choosing which people get to exist in your world with barely any work involved to it. just clicking the mouse!

Hey, I used to be in a transmed server with you, but I was gone when you stopped being a transmed, I think. I'm just wondering, what made you stop being a transmed?
Well technically my actual beliefs regarding what you need to be trans have stayed the same (a disconnect) it’s just the definitions I use now. What made me change my mind though is how a lot of medical professionals and stuff like the APA consider gender dysphoria to be significant distress. A big thing though was just how it made sense to me, when I actually started thinking about it a disconnect being dysphoria to me didn’t make sense. If you take the word dysphoria and put it in any other context it means something along the lines of discomfort (discomfort, dissatisfaction, distress, etc), so it got me thinking “why would it change when it came to gender” and yeah it wouldn’t. It just doesn’t really make sense to me that gender dysphoria would be any different to any other type of dysphoria? It has never been a disconnect so it really doesn’t make much sense imo. That’s basically what made me change my mind. Also a really cool discourse acc on insta who i still follow. So yea that’s basically all that made me change my mind. it just made sense to me. Didn't want to derail that post or anything but ... okay I am curious as to how someone would know they had gender incongruence without feeling some discomfort, in your opinion. To me, the mere fact that your sex and gender don't align would lead to some discomfort, if very, very mild. How else would you recognize it? I'm just interested to see your thoughts. Thank you
Well i’m probably not the best person to ask that because i’m not nondysphoric, sorry. But I guess you’d just feel, well, disconnected from your birth sex while being happier being seen as a different gender/called by different pronouns. Cause the way I view it is you don’t have to be uncomfortable with something to want to change it. Something can be better than something else without the other thing being awful or bad. Idk how else to explain it

I decided to give it some time to wait and see if anyone who was non dysphoric wanted to add on, but since no one did I think I’ll just look at this then.
I feel you’re trying to make an argument by analogy here. There are some things that you can want to change without being uncomfortable or finding your current state awful or bad. A good example that works somewhat well for this context would be outfits. You don’t have to hate one outfit to like another better, and just because you have a favorite outfit doesn’t mean you hate the others, or the outfit you are currently wearing.
However, I still have trouble granting this as an argument. People who prefer one gender presentation over the other might still be gender non conforming instead of trans. Let me explain.
Let’s take a person who was born female, for example. Let’s say she wasn’t bothered in the slightest by her pronouns, or her boobs, or any of those factors. But she liked wearing clothes normally associated with men. She’d just be gender non conforming right?
And then what if she decided that since she liked wearing traditionally male clothes instead of female, she was trans. So we’ll change that to he now (not excluding nonbinary this is just the easier example.) He decided he was trans and wanted to go by he/him pronouns. Well, he’d start to encounter some resistance. Transphobic people would give him the side eye. And those sorts of things would then start to make him uncomfortable. In fact, since he was just deciding based on his likes and dislikes here, he might decide to go back to going by she and her, because this person could still do everything they liked as a girl and it is far more comfortable to identify with your biological sex than it is to try to transition, even just socially.
Because of that societal pressure, I’d argue that it would be more uncomfortable for a non dysphoric person to transition than not, therefore they’d likely decide not to transition and keep the gender the same as their biological sex.
So then, basically, I don’t see a difference between someone who is gender non conforming and someone who is trans without any level of discomfort whatsoever. Do you see a difference, and if so, can you explain it to me?
To address one more thing you said, I don’t think you have to have extreme levels of discomfort here. Just mild. So i agree you don’t have to think your biological sex is awful or bad. You just have to feel it doesn’t fit you, and yeah that should make you a bit uncomfortable.
I don’t really think it’s about gender presentation though. For example a non dysphoric (gonna be using nd to mean that throughout this) trans boy would feel a disconnect from being a girl. He would in (most cases) prefer he/him pronouns over she/her (for ease we’ll just say he does) and it’d feel more right to him when people think of him as a boy. It wouldn’t exactly make him uncomfortable or feel bad if someone called him she, it’d just be wrong because he prefers he/him pronouns. This nd trans boy may not even present masculinely anyways as he could be GNC. Your example would indeed be a GNC cis girl, yes, because they wouldn’t have that gender incongruence, nor would they want to be thought of as a boy.
Some people actually do have to detransition though, not bc they wanted to, but because of transphobia and obviously they’d still be trans due to the disconnect they experience. Being trans can definitely be risky due to all the transphobes out there, but transition can be just as important for a nd trans person as it can be for a dysphoric trans person.
The actual difference is that a nd trans person experiences GI (gender incongruence/disconnect) and gender euphoria, which a cis gnc person would not. And obviously also the fact that nd trans people can be GNC as well. Even if a GNC cis girl went by he/him he still wouldn’t experience that GI or the gender euphoria that a nd trans boy would. So that’d be the difference. A he/him GNC cis girl still wouldn’t want to be thought of as a boy, and also wouldn’t see himself as a boy as he’d still be a girl

I have trouble understanding how a nd person would discover that they’re trans without feeling uncomfortable being misgendered first. You may not be able to explain that to me as you have dysphoria, but that’s the concept I don’t really understand.
And yes, in my example I was just trying to explore how someone without a discomfort would experience things. I was not trying to say that everyone who doesn’t transition isn’t trans, of course that’s untrue. I also know that trans people can be gender non conforming as well as trans. Those just didn’t come up in my reblog.
So yeah just to go back to that, I think if you can experience both gender incongruence and gender euphoria, you would also experience some sort of discomfort. For example, when someone misgenders them, wouldn’t they feel discomfort? It’s hard for me to understand that, and again if you can’t explain that’s alright. Hopefully one of your followers will see this and be able to explain better.
But also, if gender incongruence is based on the medical books, I have recently done some research on that word, as I grew curious. Here is the link to the definition of incongruence in a psychological context, as it’s probably meant to be used in the medical contexts. In this case even, some level of unpleasantness or discomfort is required. It’s when you are too far from your ideal self that it causes you a bit of unpleasantness and a wish to change.
So in short I can agree that not everyone needs dysphoria if we are currently defining dysphoria as a more extreme distress. However, I do think everyone needs some small form of discomfort. Again, can be tiny. But I haven’t really been able to understand how it’s possible to be trans without at least a minuscule level of discomfort. I don’t mean this to invalidate anyone either. I think if you do experience a disconnect and gender euphoria, you probably do experience some discomfort as well, however small.
So yeah if you can’t explain it to me anymore that’s okay. These are just my thoughts on the matter.

My mother brainwashed me and my siblings into believing she wasn’t abusive and that she was the perfect mother after months and months of emotional manipulation to get us to listen to her. She has and had no custody over any of her children for a fucking reason, but for 14 years of my life, I blindly believed that she was correct, and that everyone telling me that she was bad and that she was an abuser was wrong and just persecuting her for no reason.
How’s that for a fucking cult mentality, huh?
