“tucutes are a cult” compared to the b.i.t.e. model
the bite model was made by steven hassan as a tool to indicate if something is a cult. ill be using it here against the transmed claim that anti transmeds / tucutes / transmedics are cultists.
NOTE: IT HAS TO HAVE A MAJORITY TO BE CONSIDERED A CULT. IF ONE OR TWO THINGS MARKED A CULT, LITERALLY EVERY GROUP EVER COULD BE CALLED A CULT.
1. Regulate individual’s physical reality.
2. Dictate where, how, and with whom the member lives and associates or isolates.
not really. ive seen a few posts warning others about how a blogger could be bad, but not “you’re not allowed to talk to this person” posts.
3. Regulate when, how and with whom the member has sex.
4. Control types of clothing and hairstyles.
no, that actually seems to be more of a transmed thing.
5. Regulate diet - food and drink, hunger and/or fasting.
6. Manipulation and deprivation of sleep.
7. Financial exploitation, manipulation or dependence.
8. Restrict leisure, entertainment, vacation time.
no, many of us have main blogs, or non-discourse blog. a lot of us don’t even post daily.
9. Major time spent with group indoctrination and rituals and/or self indoctrination including the Internet.
10. Permission required for major decisions.
11. Thoughts, feelings, and activities (of self and others) reported to superiors.
12. Rewards and punishments used to modify behaviors, both positive and negative.
13. Discourage individualism, encourage group-think.
no. many transmedics have different opinions, + we’ve had infighting before.
14. Impose rigid rules and regulations.
15. Instill dependency and obedience.
16. Threaten harm to family and friends.
17. Force individual to rape or be raped.
18. Instill dependency and obedience.
19. Encourage and engage in corporal punishment.
so for behavior control, it’s 0 / 18.
1. Deception, witholding information.
no. we have sources for our beliefs, + ive myself read through transmed “sources”. information isn’t hidden. we aren’t mass-lying.
2. Minimize or discourage access to non-cult sources of information.
no, again, we have a link of rebuttals against transmed sources, so it’s not like we “don’t have access” to it, or we aren’t allowed to read it.
3. Compartmentalize information into Outsider vs. Insider doctrines.
maybe, considering we are anti transmeds. ill give them a point for this.
4. Encourage spying on other members.
5. Extensive use of cult-generated information and propaganda.
no, unless you count sources or rbing posts as cult propaganda.
6. Unethical use of confession.
so information control gets a 1 / 6.
1. Require members to internalize the group’s doctrine as truth.
even if it’s science, which is why we know it’s true? ill give a point for this.
2.Change person’s name and identity.
3. Use of loaded language and clichés which constrict knowledge, stop critical thoughts and reduce complexities into platitudinous buzz words
4. Encourage only ‘good and proper’ thoughts
5. Hypnotic techniques are used to alter mental states, undermine critical thinking and even to age regress the member
6. Memories are manipulated and false memories are created
7. Teaching thought-stopping techniques which shut down reality testing by stopping negative thoughts and allowing only positive thoughts
no, a lot of us vent on our blogs.
8. Rejection of rational analysis, critical thinking, constructive criticism
no, again, we’ve seen transmed sources of information.
9. Forbid critical questions about leader, doctrine, or policy allowed
we don’t have a leader, but ive seen tucutes ask questions about nondysphorics. so id say no to this.
10. Labeling alternative belief systems as illegitimate, evil, or not useful
it’s because they’re not right, scientifically. ill give a point for this too, anyways.
so thought control gets a 2 / 10.
1. Manipulate and narrow the range of feelings – some emotions and/or needs are deemed as evil, wrong or selfish
2. Teach emotion-stopping techniques to block feelings of homesickness, anger, doubt
3. Make the person feel that problems are always their own fault, never the leader’s or the group’s fault
4. Promote feelings of guilt or unworthiness
6. Extremes of emotional highs and lows – love bombing and praise one moment and then declaring you are horrible sinner
7. Ritualistic and sometimes public confession of sins
8. Phobia indoctrination: inculcating irrational fears about leaving the group or questioning the leader’s authority
emotional control gets 0 / 8.
we have a total of 3 / 43. not a marker of a cult. even if i was more generous with the points, you’d have to have A GRAND MAJORITY for something to be considered a cult. like half or more. not just a few points. if anything higher than 0 / 43 was a cult, you could call everything a cult.
tl;dr: tucutes aren’t a cult.
