      one of his favorite activities is poking fun at Amanda. when       he gets drunk, he's an absolute ass about it, but it's amusing       to hear his voice grow higher as he impersonates her, going       on about seventeen gentleman callers ! oh, it's great fun for       him. but no one finds it funnier that Laura. -- and he hasn't       seen Laura in years. so, as fun as it is for Tom now, it's lost       most of its luster. he still does it, though.

      never tell him that he's Southern. even if he refers to himself       as such, never let him hear that word and his name in the       same sentence. he's from Missouri, not the South. he actually       lived in Tennessee for a couple years after leaving St. Louis,       but that doesn't make him Southern. he's Midwestern. and       he doesn't have a Southern accent : it's Midland. and believe       me, they're very different.
