This is one of my fav photos i've taken. It just feels eerie and unsettling, it feels like something is off and/or missing. Maybe someone was in the photo before, but they're not there now. Weird vibe ngl..
When I've shown people this image, I get one of two responses: "this image feels comforting" or "this image is unsettling".
Legion Park, Hollidaysburg
Limestone Kilns at Canoe Creek State Park
took this a while ago, mayhaps ~2 years?
this robin tends to frequently visit!
local song sparrow (?)
could also be a house sparrow
decided to make flags for the little bee & bird war that's been going on outside my house for like 7 weeks
bug posts on tumblr tend to blow up, i swear if this post gets popular and fanart is made of the factions & stuff 😭. I am not opposed to getting drawn as a skrunkly little war photographer cat though lol.
OBSERVATION NOTES:
Today's Notes:
I spotted the great black digger wasp again
The bumblebees and leafcutter bees have seemed to drop out of the war
Bees are still fighting, although it's mainly carpenter bee vs mining bee, a few honey bees have joined in too
Starlings nowhere to be seen, but i heard the male that mimics the hawk cry in the tree in the neighbor's backyard.
The sparrows have been taking out bees left and right:
I'm pretty sure at 6am a crow took out a mourning dove or two, so the crows have several avian and lagomorph bodies to their name.
A sweat bee rammed into one of the carpenter bees, that's the first time i observed them joining the fighting
I saw two rabbits chasing one another, playing mayhaps?
Horseshoe flies in the backyard (the sparrows are far too focused on the bees to handle 'em)
Bumblebee let me get close enough to take a photo:
Spotted a crow
I think thats a crow. It could be a small hawk, fish crow, or raven? Idk, any help from ornithologists, bird experts, or raptor biologists is appreciated!

very liminal. i think tumblr crunched the quality.
EDIT (4/17/26, the day after i made this post): have more
Fort Roberdeau, Blair County, PA.
Fort Roberdeau is a civil war fort that often hosts reenactments, but most of the time it's a museum. The Mt. Lion Observatory is located behind the fort (i have went behind the fort several times for my astronomy club back when i was in HS). There is a walkable trail (with cart rides available for the disabled) with various historical areas and installments, including a lookout over a waterfall.
Throwback to when our club had a haunted trail halloween event (similar to a walk-through haunted but outside) and me and my friend wanted to prank our astronomy teacher so, instead of playing haunted music, we started up funkytown before he arrived, the look he gave us was hilarious. Mr.K was an amazing teacher.

The mannequin in the first image is so creepy to me, it looks like it's gonna move weeping angel style.
