How do Trojan horse viruses work?
There are so many different types of infections that your computer can catch while its online, you may have just given up on protecting it and decided to take your chances. This isn't a terribly wise approach, but the upside is that you'll probably learn your lesson after something bad happens. It's important you protect your computer from infections by downloading anti virus and anti malware software to your computer to keep it clean and maintain the security of the data you have on your PC. Though you may be trying to just stay away from web sites that you don't trust, some kinds of viruses and malware are difficult to avoid online and are even more difficult to detect once they install themselves on your computer. One particularly insidious virus that is a relatively common source of infection is the Win32 Trojan virus which causes a variety of small, annoying problems while simultaneously spying on your computer behaviors by logging your keystrokes and taking screen shots while you're on the computer.
The Win32 Trojan is hard to avoid because a lot of people don't realize how Trojan horse viruses actually work. A Trojan horse virus finds its way onto a computer by duping the user into thinking that he or she is downloading a piece of software that will be beneficial or useful in some way. Obviously, no one wants to download software that will be harmful, so the Trojan horse virus simply preys on this tendency to download beneficial software. It markets itself to users as something that it's not and often, users don't realize that they've downloaded a virus for quite some time afterwards.
The Win32 Trojan is a particularly good example of how the Trojan horse process works. You may be surfing around online and suddenly a popup with appear on your screen warning you that your computer has been infected with a virus. The popup will encourage you to click on it in order to remove the problematic infection. Interestingly, it is unlikely that you actually do have an infection at this point. But, the second that you click on that popup, your computer will become infected. Computer users will click on a popup like this thinking that they're saving themselves from having something bad happen when in fact, the opposite is true.
The Win32 Trojan virus really captures the essence of how Trojans work and how they become installed on people's computers. You can avoid a virus like this if you stay away from untrustworthy sites and as a rule, don't click on popups. But Trojan horses come in many different disguises. It would be hard for you to protect yourself from all of them. That's why having good antivirus software is so essential if your PC is connected to the web. The Win32 Trojan virus can make your computer run slow on the Internet and even crash amid a variety of other classic symptoms of infection, but ultimately, if you're not paying close attention to your computer's behaviors, you might not even realize that it's infected. Other viruses can cause a lot more harm to your system and use much more dubious tactics to end up on your system.
