I just learned about this recently from a Viking reenactor! Indigo dye isn't blue until it oxidizes, so when you dye with indigo your cloth or thread doesn't come out of the water blue, it comes out and then reacts with the oxygen in the air and seems to spontaneously turn blue in front of your eyes. It's a really cool process to witness.

me, I was raised by musicians
My grandmother ran a Clown College down in San Diego back in the early 60s/70s, up until John Wayne Gacy ruined the public image of the Clown in America and public interest fell off. My Father and all of his Bothers and Sister were officially registered Clowns. I recall My Father riding a unicycle while eating an ice cream cone once. I once watched My Uncle make a bicycle with spinning wheels out of those balloons you make balloon animals with. My Aunt kept exotic birds all her life. My other Uncle was a Sad Clown.
As far as the Snake Oil goes, once the Clown business dried up, My Father got a job hanging out the windows of helicopters taking videos of erupting volcanoes for science documentaries, during which time he met My Mother on a beach in the tropics. At the time she was proselytizing for a Christian Cult, but that didn’t really pay, so she also sold Nutraceuticals and Jack Lalanne Power Juicers to make ends meet.
As a pair of extremely fit and good looking people who both believed firmly in American Eugenics, they knew immediately that they would produce Prime Specimens if they were ever to breed; however, My Mother could not abide My Father’s long delinquency on his duties to Washington, and so their elopement was deferred until My Father could sort out his taxes (he only ever paid them for as long as he was married to her).

I got to see Hadestown in London on vacation and the actors and story were so amazing and I'm gonna be very Hadestown-pilled for a while so look forward to that!
