"Surprise, Ren!" A familiar digital face pops on on Ren's phone screen as he's greeted by an equally familiar voice. "I have come home to my friends!" @personae-obscura ((Have a Sophia))

"Ack--" Did he nearly drop his phone? You can't prove anything. But when his face finds the screen again, his eyes light up. It had been a long time since he had seen that little icon.
"Sophia! I was afraid my phone wouldn't have the space for you anymore!"

CARING FOR THE SICK PROMPTS.
i found this list and kinda fed into it each time i got the flu or a migraine, and u know what, it's just me revealing just how much i love the caring threads and the soft threads and the fondly exasperated "let me help you" threads! use at your pleasure, DO NOT ADD TO THE LIST NOR EDIT IT! i will be changing it accordingly!
" i found you passed out in the kitchen. you wanna stop working yourself so hard? or do i need to keep hitting the gym to carry you to bed every day? "
" you're burning up. "
" your neighbour called me and said you could use a nurse. looks like they were right, too. "
" you were told to take it easy, so... yeah. this is kinda on you. "
" you took a sick day. you NEVER take a sick day. so yeah, i got worried, and i figured i'd come over and keep an eye on you. "
" you texted me a long and incoherent text that held about 90% of the emoji list and about four different languages. figured it wouldn't hurt to drop by and see how you were doing. "
" how long have you been sick for? and don't lie. "
" you look like hell. "
" i brought you some soup; let me heat some up for you? "
" okay. it's time you went to the hospital. "
" heyโฆ hello there, sleeping beauty. you gave me a bit of a scare yesterday. how are you feeling? "
" i swear, if you even think of getting out of that bedโฆ "
" you know when i said to call if it's an emergency? a fever is most DEFINITELY considered an emergency! "
" if you think you're going to work like this, you better think again. "
" don't worry. my family swears by this remedy; just let it work its magic and you'll feel good as new in no time. "
" I don't care about getting sick. i'm not leaving you until you're back to full health. "
" you didn't stop to think that this might happen when you're burning the candle at both ends? "
" yeah, I can play the role of nurse AND say "I told you so" at the same time, actually. "
" you better drink every last drop of this tea, no matter how disgusting it is. "
" i told my boss it was an emergency so they've given me a full week to look after you. "
" quit being so stubborn and get into BED! "
" what part of doctor's orders hasn't sunk in yet? bed rest! for the WEEK! "
" right, where do you keep your saucepans? i'm going to make you my famous noodle soup. it's a cure-all, i'm telling you! "
" hey, unless you're going to the bathroom or the sofa, I don't want to see you out of that bed. got it? "
" when are you gonna start letting people look after you, huh? "
" i know, i know, i turned off all the lights once i figured you had the migraine. you want some tea? water? "
" don't be mad, but i saw your fridge, and... it frightened me. so i've taken you back to my place, and i'm gonna get deliveroo to bring some groceries to your place tomorrow. okay? "
" i know your appetite is a little off, so i ordered in a whole tonne of options. just try a little bit of something, please? for me? "
" i've brought half a pharmacy, enough movies and boardgames to last us a decade, and every single snack i could fit into the basket at the grocery store. so sit your butt down, eat your soup, and try and make the most of your bed rest for the next week, will you? "

...well this was awkward. Staring down the end of a doppelganger's bo staff (is that really what he looks like from this angle?) because he'd gotten over excited and whooped when his copy did something cool. Rookie mistake, he knows better. All he can do about it is finish his mouthful of food and hold out the little paper bag holding the rest of his prized snack. "Mozzarella stick?" @arobinwithoutbatman ((Boo~ โก))
He had only just finished dealing with a rather rambunctious deal when he heard someone above him cheering. It sounded like--
Him?
Once he had finished what he was doing, he instantly turned on the man who dared to try and sneak up on him. But then the bag was offered to him, and he stopped dead.
"......sure?"
{ @arobinwithoutbatman }
There was always something new hitting the streets, wasn't there...? He sighed, stretching his arms above his head and trying not to hit his brother in the process. He spun the chair around and folded his hands in front of his face.
"I assume Hood has no idea? That's got to get under his skin."
"Far as I know, it hasn't made it to Gotham yet." The operation was still too small-time, but unless he got on top of it quick it wouldn't stay that way. Not with just what exactly this was. "That makes it not Hood's problem."
But it remained Dick's problem, and it was currently a pretty big one considering its scope. Thus why he was here. "B's gear works faster and isn't as vulnerable as mine, so I brought a sample up with me. Figured I'd be in and out, relatively speaking, and then saw you trying to stare holes through the computer screen."
It was a gentle dig, fond and brotherly, spoken as Dick stepped away to head for the equipment he needed. Unslinging his backpack he pulled out a can of what looked like some kind of new energy drink and set to work preparing the tests he needed. "I don't think this one's out there with malice aforethought, but it's having some pretty bad side effects and I need to find out if I'm right."
He nodded, listening to Dick's explanation as he rose to his feet. Nothing came without side-effects, but it was their job to mitigate as much as they could. Jason handled a lot of it masterfully, but he was just one guy.
"Let's go set up the tests, then. See what you're up against." It was better than staring at a mess of code for another who knows how many hours.
That made him snort with laughter. "You say the most out-of-pocket shit, you know that?"
He leaned back in his chair, letting out a long and slow breath. He had worked with Victor on a couple of different systems by now. If anyone was going to be able to piece it together, it would be him or Babs. And he hadn't asked Babs yet either. Stubbornness was a bad trait they all got from their mentor, he supposed.
"I can call him if I need to." He looked up at Dick, trying not to laugh as the angle made him look ridiculous--re-DICK-ulous--and grinned. "What equipment did you need, anyway? I could use a break before I get another migraine."
"What? T-rex was a theropod, the evolutionary chain from that to bird is pretty directโฆ" Whether ducks were actually on it or not Dick had no idea, but since when did facts ever get in the way of a good joke? Plus it got a laugh out of Tim, which had been half the point in any case; the kid needed a break, if only to keep him from fryin his brain along with the computer.
Tim's question got another shrug out of him. "Some of the testing equipment. There's some new kind of thing on the streets, and it's easier to do a temperature-sensitive test down here than in my setup back in the 'haven." Considering Dick had, very stubbornly, done his setup without Wayne money and thus was working out of a spare apartment he'd rented under a fake name. The Batcave didn't exactly have to worry about shifts in outsde humidity or temperature or whether the sun was shining through a window at the wrong time.
Plus the equipment here just worked faster.
"I want to see what's in it. Got a hunch, but knowing the contents will help me track down the source."
There was always something new hitting the streets, wasn't there...? He sighed, stretching his arms above his head and trying not to hit his brother in the process. He spun the chair around and folded his hands in front of his face.
"I assume Hood has no idea? That's got to get under his skin."
"Dick, if I wanted to look like I've lost my mind I would just go talk to the T Rex."
He rolled his eyes, though there was a certain fondness in the expression. The mention of Cyborg was something he hadn't really considered, though. Mostly because he was still technically working on the batcomputers.
"That might not be a bad idea. But you know what Bruce would say."
"T-rex, rubber duckโฆ" Dick shrugged carelessly. "What's a little evolution between theropods?"
And besides that, it wasn't as though anyone would be down here to see him, with the obvious exceptions of Bruce and Alfred - who would understand what was going on - and Dick himself - who would just be amused even after understanding dawned. It wouldn't be solving Tim's current problem, though, clearly.
"In the first place, Cyborg knows better than to go sight-seeing in someone else's system." Because even as good as Vic was, Bruce would eventually find out. "In the second, I know you can pull the code off the servers here and onto something more portable, because a tracking system you can't take with you is pointless. Right? So who cares what Bruce would say. You get this thing up and running, you'll probably streamline tracking work for all of us, Bruce included. He'll get over it."
That made him snort with laughter. "You say the most out-of-pocket shit, you know that?"
He leaned back in his chair, letting out a long and slow breath. He had worked with Victor on a couple of different systems by now. "I can call him if I need to." He looked up at Dick, trying not to laugh as the angle made him look ridiculous--re-DICK-ulous--and grinned. "What equipment did you need, anyway? I could use a break before I get another migraine."
"No. Every time I try, whoever I try to talk to gets bored and walks away."
He frowned. It wasn't anything he wasn't used to. Most of the people he was around besides Babs didn't really understand what he was saying, and so they didn't really feel like they could help. But that was never really the point of the duck method, now was it?
"I'll figure it out eventually."
"โฆYou realize you're supposed to use a literal rubber duck for that, right?"
Dick grinned again, ruffling Tim's hair fondly. He'd offer, himself, but Tim's technical knowledge easily oustripped his own here. Sure, Dick could write programming if he absolutely had to, but he was far more likely to turn to Vic or Babs - or Tim himself - if he needed something like that.
Hm. Speaking of Vicโฆ
"You want me to call in Cyborg? I know B hates anyone else working on his gear, but since this is your projectโฆ" A loophole was a loophole, right?
"Dick, if I wanted to look like I've lost my mind I would just go talk to the T Rex."
He rolled his eyes, though there was a certain fondness in the expression. The mention of Cyborg was something he hadn't really considered, though. Mostly because he was still technically working on the batcomputers.
"That might not be a bad idea. But you know what Bruce would say."
"It's nothing important."
He shrugged, running a hand through his hair. He had been working on this for a few days now, but he hadn't made much progress. It was starting to bug him.
"It's a tracking program I'm working on. It's not working right."
"What was wrong with the old version?"
A rhetorical question, that. If something could be improved upon, then it should be. Bruce's programs and gear were all top of the line, of course, but obsolesence in technology was never all that far away these days.
Dick leaned against the back of the chair, studying the screen. "Have you tried the duck method yet?"
"Jesus fuc--"
He almost fell out of his chair, he spun around so fast.
"Dick! What are you doing here?"
It's a very near thing, but he does manage not to laugh at Tim's reaction. He hadn't been trying to be quiet, after all; Tim clearly had just been that focused on what he's doing. Doesn't stop Dick grinning at him, though, entirely unrepentant.
"Borrowing some lab equipment. What's not showing up for you?"
"It's nothing important."
He shrugged, running a hand through his hair. He had been working on this for a few days now, but he hadn't made much progress. It was starting to bug him.
"It's a tracking program I'm working on. It's not working right."
YOU UNFOLLOWED ME?!?!?!
hoeish behavior. >w>
"Okay, so if this isn't showing up then...."
Has he noticed anyone nearby? Absolutely not.
"Having some trouble there, Boy Wonder?"
Does this have anything to do with him? Absolutely not; he's in town on probably something completely unrelated. Is he looking over Tim's shoulder anyway? Naturally, he's nosy as hell.
