Boots on the Ground

Some deployment flavored Howzer/Keeli for an exchange, written for @itsstrangelypermanent

The overwhelming majority of the citizenry is Twi’lek. While many of the people do speak Basic, their Jedi has set up a course in the main planetary language, Ryl, with native instructors, that while not mandatory, is highly encouraged. It’s an as-available, ever-changing course, with lessons of varying difficulty for all skill levels. Ryloth natives also attend, learning and practicing Basic. The conversation sessions are quite lively.

Lek-speak can be somewhat simulated with hands and other body twitches. It’s nearly impossible to achieve the proper levels of sinuosity with armor on, so they post guards around the classroom of the hour and shuck the tops of their shells.

The first time Howzer sees his commanding officer let loose, the intensity of his physical response surprises him—he’s attracted but it’s not all under his crotch plate. His mouth aches like he needs to have something between his teeth, on his tongue. His spine prickles, and something lurches up from his gut to beat his heart and squeeze his lungs. His feet want to point toward Captain Keeli, the backs of his thighs and the palms of his hands sweat.

“Koahiko, Howzer?” Captain Keeli asks him in Ryl which when inflected as a question, and with that gesture, changes the meaning from you’re welcome/no worries, to, no worries?/are you okay?

He manages to sound reasonably calm and professional when he answers in the same language. “Ka’annon.” It’s one phrase the clones caught onto even more quickly than the swear words. Yes, sir, it means.

“No bullshit, kid, we’re off duty,” Captain Keeli reverts to Basic.

“Sorry, sir,” Howzer says.

“Didn’t I just say we’re off duty? You can call me Keeli, alright? It’s not going to hurt you to relax the professionalism a little.”

Privately, Howzer disagrees.

“I’m fine. Keeli,” he says awkwardly. The Captain throws his arm over his shoulders, pulling him close and squeezing him tightly, and smacks a friendly, loud kiss onto his temple. Howzer squawks, even as some of the other language students, clone and twi’lek alike, titter.

A painfully angsty, hopeful ending (MCD not permanent) Fox/Echo/Fives for an exchange, written for @elthadriel

Fox follows orders, even when they’re distasteful. He doesn’t feel bad.

He strips his blaster again, solid and cool in his hands. Muzzle, butt, trigger well, coil. Selector switch.

Does it even matter how a clone dies? They are made to fall. Dragging a casualty of battle isn’t that much different than stacking the corpses of criminals. Dead meat, he says again to himself.

He’d carried Rex’s ARC’s body out of there himself; it had seemed fair. Solid and cool.

He lies to himself ruthlessly about why this death doesn’t matter any more than any other.

He closes his eyes, grips the familiar shape of his blaster. Doesn’t think about those things he cannot afford to think about. Excising those thoughts is the price he pays for the ability to keep on operating. Should he? Does he deserve to?

No, but it is his duty.

(Does he mean living is, or dying? Even he’s not sure.)

An object(ification) in motion remains in motion. The path of least resistance. Least, not none. Some resistance is still inescapable. His hand creaks on the casing. He resists several urges. He lays the weapon down and lays himself down to sleep.

Just A Little Prick

RexThorn; a nice AU branch of the nonconkamino ‘verse.

“Your ass is getting fat, ‘67,” taunts the vod who’d left a stinging handprint on said bodypart, more vivid for being inflicted upon wet skin.

“I do all the same training as you; it’s just how my body’s distributing growth,” 7567 says, trying to sound calm but just coming off tense. “I’m getting bigger pecs and glutes, whereas you’re just developing a fat head.”

“Hey,” says a vod from his batch, from behind ‘67. He doesn’t sound teasing, but ‘67 tenses anyway because receiving attention has never turned out well for him.

He remembers to lower his voice. “Are you talking to me?” he asks as discouragingly as he can.

“Yeah, Seven-Five-Six-Seven, right? I’m Thorn,” the smiling cadet says, holding out his arm in greeting. He came to confront ‘67 alone, which could be bad or good, depending.

Six-seven keeps his hands to himself and only nods in acknowledgment, hoping Thorn just wanted to introduce himself and will now go away.

“I heard what you muttered the other evening,” Thorn says, serious and genuine. ‘67 cocks his head, inviting clarification. “I know you don’t like bullies, and you said you specifically didn’t like Jecko slapping you; but you, uh, didn’t deny liking getting slapped, and I heard you getting off to it after. Which, congrats, by the way, good for you. I don't think you’ve ever done it before?”

Six-seven rolls his eyes and tries to push past Thorn. He doesn’t want to discuss it. Thorn hurries quickly along in step with him. “I just—I wouldn’t be mean about it, ‘67, and I can promise I will never try to fuck you like he was threatening, and if you’re with me, everyone else will be more likely to leave both of us alone, see?” he rushes to say. “The deal would be, you let me put you over my lap and spank you, then you go back to your bed to finish yourself off, and I’ll guard you while you’re doing that, okay?”

Six-seven stops and frowns suspiciously at Thorn. “Why?” he asks.

“It’d be fun,” Thorn says simply, flashing a smile.

That’s a deflection if ‘67 ever saw one. “So what would you be getting out of this, huh?” he demands.

“We could be boyfriends,” Thorn says, and shrugs, falsely nonchalant. “Maybe you’d want to help me get off too?”
