Little addendum to that translation since I guess the five of you who still read this blog may be confused: Nakata moved out of his studio six (maybe five, I’ve never been quite sure) years ago, and his childhood friend nishi-ken took over his original space with the famous “vocal booth.” nishi-ken is now moving out of that studio so they’re taking the booth apart and storing it in a warehouse. “ystkstudio” is obviously Nakata’s studio, “nskstudio” is nishi-ken’s studio.

Also, “Telephone VOX” is a play on words: vox is used in reference to voice/vocals in music terminology, but is pronounced more like “box” with a Japanese accent; the booth itself resembles a telephone box, ergo Telephone Vox. But most of us English-speaking fans just called it the vocal booth. (And it is extremely unconventional to have your singers record in a repurposed storage closet, but I guess it beats the hell out of having them record in the kitchen which is where Perfume was at in the very beginning…)

Anyway, RIP that studio, some of my favorite music was recorded in there and it along with its laughably tiny recording space will be sorely missed. I’m not quite as fond of the current one.

My favorite stuff in school was math. I was obsessed with it. I did all these extra classes. I remember one time when I was taking a math exam … I was writing a formula, and it felt as if I were looking under a curtain that was blowing the wind. Math and movement are where I feel at home.
