Sooo... is it safe to add perfume to the list of former Nakata artists now?
I mean I guess so? lol I could see him making something for them for an anniversary in the future but they're probably not going to be "active" artists again in the sense of doing whole album promotional cycles.
So do you think nakata is gonna have another solo venture now that perfume is going on break, go freelance, or hit up kyary or toshiko?
He's an idol producer, they're doing a Liar Game anime adaptation that I'm sure he'll be involved in, Kyary is still active, he co-produced the soundtrack for that videogame movie that's done inordinately well at the box office. I don't think he'll do another solo.
Btw I'm more inclined to believe this is a permanent thing for Perfume, idol groups always use "hiatus" to give their fans some copium (and because it sounds nicer than disbandment/"quitting"). Before anyone comes at me about how XYZ other J-pop artist went on hiatus and came back, those people aren't idols who do entire concert tours in heels. If they get together again in the future I imagine it'll be a one-time anniversary commemoration type of deal...
Have you had a chance to listen to the new Kyary song? Not gonna lie, it's actually a vibe lol. Who knew she'd be the Nakata act to bring back the house vibes.
Tragically it is still her vocals on it and I've never been a fan of her voice so I'm good lol (aside from the whole tired Harajuku kawaii thing which also never really excited me)... Instrumentally it's nice, it reminds me a little of this track from Shinichi Osawa's SO2 album:
Sakai Kate answered some messages about COLTEMONIKHA on her Instagram account recently (25.07.30)
not to depreciate all the scans and whatnot but you've reposted more than a few things from sources you've omitted as well
A more constructive message would've been to tell me what sources I've omitted. :)
Do you think it was inevitable that ystk's career was going to fizzle out the way it seems to have? And do we know why capsule fizzled out? Like, when they did the remasters I thought they were gonna have a comeback and now they're basically over :(
I tend to think if he'd stayed with Yamaha his career would look different right now. BUT a long time ago he chose to leave them and signed up with his ~friend's company that has the sole M.O. of using Harajuku culture for profit so here we are, at the crossroads of him producing idol music for idol groups who have [Discontinued Fashion Magazine] + [Discontinued Fashion Magazine] as their naming schematic while evoking absolutely not a single thing about that era of pop culture otherwise... Anyway.
We don't know what's going on with capsule. Their big comeback was supposed to be Metro Pulse. I feel sorry for Toshiko and I hope whatever is going on will be resolved before they both turn fifty.
Man it will never not be weird to run into a person on a website using my scans for their profile pic lol
chat are we cooked. is it too late to ever see capsule perform live in person. will not attending capsule's LA performance in 2019 be the biggest regret of my life.
Probably cooked, but I will say I only ever wanted to see them in a club. I feel that was the environment their style of performing shone the most in: relatively small and intimate (depending on the venue), and their type of music obviously just made sense for the surroundings (regardless of later attempts to make big ostentatious dance tracks for stuff like the Wave Runner hall tour).
I think about the L.A. performance more lately since they seem like they're functionally disbanded; I don't personally have a lot of regret over not going (again, I only ever dreamed of seeing them at clubasia or World lol) but if I knew then what I know now, I would've gone.
“Supreme Show” by Ami Suzuki is now available mostly worldwide on Spotify. Until June 2025 it was sill region blocked overseas in some countries.
“Supreme Show” is the seventh studio album by Ami Suzuki, released in Japan on November 12, 2008 via Avex Trax. This album marked her 10th anniversary in the music industry. Entirely produced, composed, and arranged by Yasutaka Nakata (CAPSULE).
How is Love or Lies gonna be in the top ten best pop songs Nakata's ever made
I always play pondered if WoFs original title killer wave had a song named after it on the album that was scrapped/remade into another? i just wanna xxxx you always felt a bit lazier compared to the other songs on the track and i wondered if you would have any idea about it?
WOF was already listed for preorders with a tracklist and cover art revealed before it got renamed (in light of the March 2011 Tohoku earthquake/tsunami disaster; the release date was also originally slated for late March and got pushed to May due to this), so there was never a song called Killer Wave. The title Killer Wave referred to a "killer wave of sound" and doubled as an oblique reference to the lossless digital audio format WAV (he would later do this with Wave Runner).
I like I Just Wanna XXX You (and have no insights in particular on the song), but I did and still do feel like this album marked the beginning of Nakata's very obvious burnout. The production was just not at the same standard set by his previous work.
New song "Nebula Romance" now available!! ︎
