Before visiting the Ferragamo Museum, I didn't really have any expectations, but if I did, I would say that they were met. The very beginning of the museum rooms/exhibits was my favorite. I loved seeing all of the different shoes and how the styles, shapes, and colors have evolved around the years. I was most fascinated in the pair of shoes that Ferragamo designed for Judy Garland. The layered, rainbow wedges were definitely "out-there" but in the best way possible. They were a pair of shoes that I could picture Judy Garland wearing on the Yellow Brick Road. From the first shoe-filled room, the museum-high kind of wore off. I was not as fascinated with the sculpture-filled rooms and many other, in my opinion, random items. I understand that the exhibit tries to explain the process of Ferragamo's work and the importance of walking and movement, but I found it to be boring. Once we got to the movie screening room, I was delighted. The video proved to be very interesting and I enjoyed watching the intimate interview with Ferragamo's wife. It's inspiring to see how involved she was with his work before he passed, that she was able to carry on his legacy just by taking her knowledge from what he had done in front of her and applying it to the world. The genius innovations of Ferragamo could have been long lost if it weren't for his attentive wife.
Gucci - Yeah, I've gone to this museum 3 times and (almost) 4; it's the same every. single. time.
My favorite part of the museum was the Evening room where some of Gucci’s most exquisite evening gowns are displayed. While there are only a few items displayed at one time, it was interesting to see them up close. I am a huge fan of Blake Lively, so it was really exciting to see a gown that she wore to a red carpet event.
The Bamboo room, the last one we visited, was the most interesting one, to me. While the layout of the museum is beautiful all around, I thought that the room displaying the bamboo bags was the most creatively designed and laid out. I loved the spotlights that turned on in increments. This allows the visitor of the exhibit to view the progression of Gucci’s designs and how the bags have evolved over time.
Of all the rooms visited, however, the most surprising one to me was the Lifestyle room. While I have never been too familiar with the Gucci brand, I definitely wasn’t aware that all of the items on display in the Lifestyle room existed. I can see how it is important to the brand to create a sense of unity throughout every items designed, and the Gucci lifestyle items allow for customers to live a life of luxury in their home and even away from home, like on a camping trip or a picnic!
During the tour, the Gucci museum never ceased to amaze me. From the diamond pattern floor, to the Cadillac Seville, there is definitely something for everyone at the Gucci Museum!
