When I was a journalist, the first lesson I got from a more experienced colleague was the correct use of the words "alleged", and "arrested and charged". Because using those words incorrectly left the paper open to libel lawsuits.
No matter the evidence or public sentiment, nobody was a criminal until it was settled in court.
