Midna drew her head back. “Well, now.” She kept her voice level, but really, if the Hylians found their way back into the Twilight realm—and safely, no less—she could one day return to the Light World and to those she left behind. And the potential made it difficult to reign in her composure. This was still a stranger.

"Possible? Do you know nothing? I was under the impression we already had a relationship," she said. She crossed her legs and pressed her fingertips together. "There are formalities left, I take it?"

Midna sat up straighter in her throne. She leaned forward and rested her hands on each chair arm.

"When the guards announced an ambassador, I can’t say I expected you."

Her words rang out in the vacant cube of a throne room. The iridescent teal lights only climbed so high before they fell prey to the cloying shadows of the ceiling.

"Why are you here?"

"Your Majesty," Sheik began, dropping to one knee with his fist clenched over his heart in a sign of respect. "I have been sent by the Hyrulean Royal Family to attempt negotiating an alliance."

Sheik peered at Midna through his bangs, red eyes sparkling in the ambient teal light, standing up from his bow. Her reaction now could pave hundreds of possible futures, each possibility whirling around his head while he waited.
