Wrap-around Fishtail Headband
Tools:
Hair brush
Bobby Pins
Hairspray
Today I am going to do a tutorial on how to create a wrap-around fishtail headband. If you want to give this look more of a bohemian look or add a little texture to the hair, you can first wave the hair with a curling iron or wand. For more on how to do this be sure to check out my NuMe Titan 3 Beach Waves video and blog post.
First you want to make a deep part on either side of your head. Next, take a section of hair about an inch to two inches wide right next to the part line. Split the section of hair like you would if you are about to start a braid, however instead of three strands we will be working with two. Next, you want to take a small section of hair from the outer part of the top strand and cross it over the strand to add it into the bottom strand of hair.
You will now do the same with the bottom strand. Take hair from the outer part of the bottom strand and cross it over so it is now apart of the top strand. Okay so the next part is where it can get a little more complex. Basically we are creating a french braid style but using a fishtail braid. Therefore, you want to take hair again from the outside of the top strand and bring it over to the bottom strand like you did before. However, this time you are going to add a small section of hair into the braid from the top that wasn't included already in the top strand. This hair will be added to the hair you just crossed over to the bottom strand. You will repeat these steps now using the bottom strand of the brand.
Continue this technique of adding in hair to the fishtail until the braid gets to just behind your ear. Once you get to the ear you will continue just a regular fishtail braid without gathering in more hair. You want to braid the hair until you have you get to the ends. Once you can't braid anymore wrap the hair around the back of the head until it hits right behind your other ear where you started the braid. Take your bobby pins and insert them in an "x" like pattern for extra hold. Next if you have a small section of hair left in the front on the other side of the part you started the fishtail, pull it or twist the hair back and pin it over the ends of the braid to cover it. Lastly, if you want the fishtail too look a little looser and fuller, you can "pancake" the braid by lightly tugging and stretching it out along the braid. Finish off the look with a little hairspray for hold.
Now you should have a gorgeous braid and a new style to add to any look!
