hello, not a patient, but i'm fairly new to making recolors and i wanted to ask for help, i hope that's okay! 🙏
typically when i want to add patterns to an item, i paste an image of the pattern i want and select blend mode > multiply, then remove the excess so it fits the item properly. though when i do that the colors come out muted and sort of muddy, even when i turn up the brightness/contrast/whatever else it doesn't look quite right. is there a better way to do this? also if that matters i use pixlr editor, i also have photopea but i find it more difficult to use lol
Hi there. I heard through the grapevine that this is how EA does it too. Although they allegedly stick to gradient maps instead of flat colors.
If the multiply layer ends up too muted I tend to use an overlay over it to add more pop to the final result. Their order also matters.
You may need to experiment a little bit with it on your own since most art software mixes blend modes differently.
In Photopea my method would look like this, but the general idea should work in pixlr too
