i cant believe im alive and im just sitting in silence most of the time
Franz Kafka, 1912
I no longer miss the old versions of me, of them and all those places. Living in the past and regret were bad habits I always tried to shake off. Of course, that also came with a fear of the future. Now I don't care for either, but now there is nothing to do, to remember or to dream about. I really thought being free of living in the past and future would make me happy. Many things feel empty now.
Susan Sontag, from As Consciousness is Harnessed to Flesh: Journals and Notebooks, 1964-1980; February 17th, 1970
