he insisted on growing so quickly, yet kiba carried far too much inexperience still. there were times kokushibō worried in her own way, knowing he would be too apt to run headfirst into something far over his head without even thinking twice.

hopefully himiko and hikari don't pick up any bad habits...

but how does one teach something like patience to one with so little interest in learning such a thing? kokushibō is certain she'd have to trick him somehow for that to ever land.

they had created a family. were they happy? did she make her family members… happy? such a realisation came crashing down upon her; that demons were not unfeeling monsters like her sister's killer — but rather, beings that could fall in love.

it was so human, she didn't know what to do. her hands felt numb, breath drawing tight. they… came from humans, didn't they?

somewhere along the line, she seemed to have forgotten that fact.

"…what's it like?" words humming like a wasp's wings, "having a family?"

though she wears the face of a ghost, vision is not stunted--she can see it, the way shinobu wavers. it seems as if she would collapse under the weight of her own realizations though kokushibō can only hazard a guess.

did it disturb her? to know these demons had a family? to know they mingled with these humans? that they are adored?

upper one would assume yes, cemented by that strained question.

"...like finding air after drowning." like even a corpse could remember how to breathe, could find a purpose and reason to do so. "and i would use myself as the shield to keep them safe."

a shield, she says. as if a being like upper one would be anything but an impassable wall: ensuring shinobu would never reach the one demon she sought.

she was sure he was here. she was positive, everything about dōma lead to this temple — but why were there children in the distance, scattered about and laughing together? she could see the demonhood in these little ones, and yet they mixed so delightedly with the human children as if nothing was different about them.

shinobu freezes — for the first time in her life, she hesitated.

"you're their… family?"

she had known when shinobu drew near the moment she stepped foot upon the temple's grounds, and thus had been forced to move: there are too many followers nearby to act and yet thinly veiled warning remains--do not cause harm.

a forced sort of truce still, where she stands next to shinobu. "family? i am their mother."

how confronting it must be, to see hidden demonhood so happily playing with other children as if they were all one and the same. "...they are himiko, and hikari. i stay here with my children, their father, and their godfather."

a whole family of monsters, so sharply contrasted against the way the human children play and even the adults cast adoring glances. how confronting it must be, to learn upper one is so loved.

because i think of it so regularly: a bit of a nickname (so to speak) among demons for koku is the demon-eater due to her known tendency and reputation for devouring demons--she will do so even without muzan's instruction simply because she can and is ever hungry
