KONOS will manage the critical infrastructure for CEZ in Bulgaria

In October 2017, TTCM signed a contract for delivery of a dispatching solution for ČEZ Bulgaria. A similar dispatcher already operates at ČEZ in the Czech Republic. This is another success of TTC MARCONI in implementing its own dispatching solution.

The whole project concerns the implementation of the KONOS dispatching communication platform. It connects critical infrastructure management systems, simplifies communication, unifies dispatching procedures, and integrates data from third-party systems into one dispatching terminal.

"It is a unique system that represents a highly flexible and reliable communication tool over a wide range of IP, digital and analogue connections, and supports many other services such as radio networks, data, video surveillance, security solutions, etc.," says Václav Bohata, project manager of TTC Marconi.

In the Czech Republic, this system is used by dispatchers and staff in five regional CEZ dispatch centres, fault service workers at all workplaces and in the field (radio stations) and selected administrators with defined approaches to the system. It controls the operation and solution of distribution network failures within the Czech Republic

The KONOS system is actively used in the energy, transport, and components of the integrated rescue system. Currently it helps to manage critical situations in 6 countries.

CEZ Bulgaria EAD was established in 2005 to represent the CEZ Group on the Bulgarian energy market. Its core business is primarily to support the activities of the CEZ Group in Bulgaria and to provide shared and support services. Another important role of CEZ Bulgaria EAD is the coordination of the activities of all ČEZ companies in Bulgaria.

Teleprotection by TTC meets the strict demands of power industry

On 12th-14th September, TTC Marconi took part in the Energetab Fair, one of the largest power industry fairs in Poland. In cooperation with Mikronika, our company presented its teleprotection solutions for power industry including, among others, TP10 - a product certified for distribution by PSE (Polish distribution system) in 2016.

"Very high voltage lines transmit extreme power levels. If their operating conditions are disturbed, we need a reliable and very fast intervention of the protection elements, which depends - among others - on the communication support of special systems. This is the only way of reducing the risks for peole and preventing large property damages as well as operational losses," says Petr Boček, a power industry expert from TTC Marconi.

The ENERGETAB fair, which takes place in Bielsko-Biała, is the largest fair in the field of power industry, power distribution and electrical installations in Central Europe. Participation in this event has become a tradition for all important companies in the industry. This year, the participants of the 30 anniversary fair included 709 exhibitors from over 23 countries worldwide.

We presented our power industry solutions for Croatian market

TTC Marconi participated in the HRO CIGRÉ power industry congress, which took place on 5th-8th November 2017 in the Croatian city of Šibenik. Together with the partner company TimCom, representatives of both companies presented our teleprotection solutions and the KONOS dispatching platform.

"Our products are fully adjusted to the specific technical requirements of power industry and meet its demands in the long term in a number of countries on several continents," said Štefan Košovan, TTC Marconi's Product Manager.

HRO CIGRÉ hosted over 900 experts, who deal with the problems related to the power industry. This year's event brought a record number of papers, presentations and, moreover, tours through technical facilities, which made the 13th anniversary of HRO CIGRÉ the most successful meeting so far. The topics discussed in sixteen work groups dealt with a number of power industry aspects such as integration of smart grids and renewable sources, coordination of power transfer and distribution, regulatory problems, market models or new methods of enhancing the transfer capacities.

Today is the day when one of the largest international fairs starts - it is the Europan Utility Week 2017 Its main topic is SMART Utilities. Rescue services for the 21st century

Mobile ambulance in practice: Automatic localization of the caller, online position tracking of rescue vehicles and multi-touch tablets for paperless communication with hospitals. A dream for some, a standard for rescuers in Hradec Králové.

TTC Marconi has completed another integration project. For most of us, an ambulance is a vehicle with a siren, making its way with difficulties through traffic jams to reach the patient in the shortest time possible. Few people realize that an ambulance in 2015  is, altogether, a mobile computing centre. The rescue worker plays the main role, of course, but it is IT which helps reduce the „minutes“ required to the minimum.

Internet of Things for power engineering

TTC Marconi has introduced a unique solution for Internet of Things (IoT) for power networks. The basic concept is based on practical experience gained from pilot projects in the Czech Republic. The solution also respects the future development of power distribution.

The main benefits of IoT in power engineering include:

Possibility of communication from small power engineering facilities such as distribution substations, isolators and switches in cable networks and overhead lines, renewable energy sources, weather stations, etc. in a manner acceptable in terms of costs and installation as the distribution networks include tens of thousands of such facilities

Communication secured to the level required by legislation for critical infrastructure

Option to select the optimal communication medium for given applications in terms of the number of locations or independence of third parties

Hierarchically organized collection and local pre-processing of data from power engineering facilities

Centralized supervision and control of all IoT features, which can be dimensioned and user-optimized to support large numbers of elements (up to hundreds of thousands)

Within one’s own power distribution network, the solution can be used for remote control, measurement and supervision of the technologies in the distribution substation; remote control of HV/LV segment isolators; or the concentration of data coming from outside the distribution system (AMM). Nevertheless, the system also allows integration of smaller production sources (renewable resources).

Critical situations under control

A workshop that took place in Bratislava attracted a number of customers interested in TTC MARCONI's unique solution for dispatch management.

KONOS is an dispatcher communication integration platform that provides efficient access to different communication networks though a single intuitive interface. It simplifies communication, unifies dispatch operations and integrates data from third-party systems into a single dispatch communication channel.

KONOS is currently being used in the power engineering and transport segments and by the Czech Integrated Rescue System. It works to manage operational and critical situations in six countries. In our region, it helps resolve emergency situations for the Rescue Service, the Railway Infrastructure Administration (emergency train stopping - so-called “General Stop”, see the demo video HERE), the power company ČEZ and the Prague metro.

Trains in the Czech Republic can be stopped remotely

TTC Marconi and the Railway Infrastructure Administration have successfully demonstrated a new feature of the KONOS dispatch terminal and GSM-R communication network: remote train stopping – so-called General STOP. The result has been an improvement in safety on over 1600 km of rail tracks in the Czech Republic.

“In a very short time, we managed to integrate a number of disparate technologies along the route from the dispatch terminal to the trains’ brakes. I am very glad that we have done something to enhance railway safety again. I am confident that this new feature will help prevent future accidents,” explains Richard Hartmann, TTC Marconi's Executive Director.

So far, the General STOP feature has only been used on tracks equipped with the analogue Track Radio System (TRS). In case of danger, this feature allows the station dispatcher or control operator to stop all the trains within the range of the given base radio station.

This practical tool has already helped save a number of human lives and prevented enormous material damages. This is why RIA, as the administrator of the railway infrastructure, examined the possibilities of implementing the General STOP feature into the digital radio system GSM-R as well. This system is derived from the mobile system used in public networks; it has been specifically modified for the railway environment and now is being implemented on important rail tracks across the Czech Republic.

This has resulted in a special feature called GSM-R STOP, which enhances the flexibility of employees ensuring the organization and management of railway traffic in the given section. These operators can, in case of an emergency on the track (e.g. an object on the track, fallen tree), respond by pressing a button on the control terminal, thus stopping all trains connected to the GSM-R radio system within the selected section. All the trains in this area (including those not equipped with the GSM-R STOP feature) will receive a voice memo on the emergency situation in their vicinity through the automatic reporting system.

An important step in the implementation of this plan took place last September upon the initiation of the construction project called Implementation of the STOP Feature in the GSM-R Radio Network. It is being carried out both in the control halls of the central dispatch stations in Prague and Přerov and in the traffic offices and process facilities. The project spans approximately 200 locations across the Czech Republic. The project, which will cost CZK 25 million, is being funded from national resources. RIA acts as the investor, while TTC Marconi is the general contractor. The planned date of completion is in September.

“Along the way to the present success, there were many technical and legislative glitches to resolve. As a result, the General STOP feature has become a basic feature of the GSM-R system. If European institutions agree and the mentioned feature is incorporated into the EIRENE standards, it will be possible to use it across a large part of Europe,” explains Pavel Surý, RIA's Managing Director.
