He makes beauty out of ashes…
“One of the ways God encourages us to change is by constantly starting things over. He created you to sleep, so every night you lie down and go into an odd kind of coma for about 8 hours and then you wake up and start another day. Think of it like a do-over. And it’s not only you. The whole earth is starting over every morning. And it’s not only days that start over, it’s the seasons, too. Soon it will be spring, again, for the millionth time. But it will be all new to us. And then summer and then winter, always changing, always starting over, always inviting us to do the same.”

You may water others’ roots, but don’t forget to water your own as well. You deserve to bloom just as much as anyone else.

To anyone out there tonight with a heavy heart, I understand you. We must remember who we are, where we are going, and who we serve. I struggle with the numbness just as much as you do I promise. So whilst I am reminding myself I will remind you also. Everything will be ok, He is with us. Everything will be ok, He is with us. Everything will be ok, He is with us.
current mood: finding a friend, getting in the car, and just road tripping somewhere. good music playing in the background. warm weather. seeing and experiencing new things. leaving everything stressful behind us for awhile. forgetting all that hurts.
Remember that the bricks that you carry right now are gradually building your house, one by one, slowly but surely.

Fear doesn’t stop you. Not at all. You are so courageous that not even the darkest of skies can shake you. You are so brave that not even the loudest of storms will scare you. You are not controlled by fear. It has no power over you. And you continue to have the ability to overcome it.

there are times when the sadness seems like it will never end. the days drag on and it’s hard not to feel hopeless. but there’s so much more to life than right now. some of the best days of your life could be ahead of you. there’s a whole future waiting for you and it’s brighter than you can predict.
“Close your eyes and imagine the best version of you possible. That’s who you really are, let go of any part of you that doesn’t believe it.”
— C. Assaad (via purplebuddhaquotes)
“It is through risking being hurt that we gain the greatest love. There is this trust involved in giving and receiving love. May it come to the softened hearts, in the fullness of time, in the most beautiful of forms. May the form be one that our heart recognizes and needs.”
— Omid Safi, “In Praise of Softness” (via beingblog)
Sometimes I forget to listen. I forget to let a friend be. To tell their whole story and paint their full heart into the air.
I’m too eager to respond with a fix, a solution, a plan. I interrupt the art. I look for a pause to jump in and offer all sorts of articulate banter, when this isn’t what they want. They just want to speak until they’re out of breath, and then meet eyes and feel like they’re okay and understood and not alone. It’s a beautiful thing, and I want to let it happen. I want to let them finish painting in their own words. And then maybe I will understand. — J
If words were wounds
and you could see flesh tearing —
would we still speak the same way
or find new ways to destroy ..?
If words were healing
and you could see wounds sealing —
would we still speak the same way
or withhold words to destroy ..?
But this is what it is, every day.
Words rip, words mend —
deeper than flesh, more than metal.
Flesh is fragile,
but a soul, eternal.
Will we still speak the same way?
—J.S.
Stop trying to get over heartbreak so quickly, you would never tell a wounded person to hurry up and recover. We all know that healing takes time, and sometimes the emotional wound is very deep, so we need to treat it seriously. You’ll be frustrated that you haven’t moved on, but you will one day. -T.B.
