it makes me so happy that the sailor moon lady and hxh guy are married and have been happily married for like 20 years with 2 kids

YEAH SHE QUIT AN ANIME BECAUSE IT WAS UNFAIR 2 HER AND THEN THEY MADE A DIFFERENT MANGA SERIES AND GOT MARRIED!

they’ve been supporting each other’s work for a really long time too and they both really support lgbt people and have both in their series (handled well too!!!) it makes me so happy :-)

i also learned today that the sailor moon uniforms are based off of uniforms she wore in high school! she also actually went to school to be a chemist because she was discouraged from becoming a mangaka due to her gender, and she wrote sailor moon while working as a pharmacist (she studied ultrasounds and stuff!)

also a quick google search shows these things:

she explains lesbians to japanese children :D they’re also very explicitly gay

and the hxh author did an AmA recently for his new series and confirmed this

he also wrote one of the few very good trans girls in anime/manga, Alluka (who’s handled very well!)

bonus: this is just funny

it just makes me very happy that some of the most famous mangaka are very openly supportive of gay and trans people, and are pretty happily married.

also: this is important because both of these series were written in the 90’s and are very explicit and accurate with their LGBT stuff for the times, and actually represent each member of the LGBT (lesbians in sailor moom, gay men in yuyu hakusho, bi people in sailor moon, transgender people in hxh!)

it really goes against the notion that mangaka in Japan can’t be held to standards because of shonen jump/different info, considering misses naoko’s magnum opus sailor moon has had well-handled, realistic lesbians and it came out in like 1991! sailor moon is often credited for introducing the west to anime and manga, as well.

they also are like.. good heterosexuals and pretty consistently dispell the whole “so sometimes you just gotta get away from your annoying wife 😆” things, and support each other fully!

anyway, i love them.
