Today commemorates the day that God saw fit to form my love. He ensured you were equal parts sassy and sweet; passionate and compassionate; a dreamer, an extraordinary talent, breathtakingly beautiful, humble, driven, God-fearing, an awesomely amazing mother, a trusted friend, and so much more. In my marriage vows I spoke on how I loved you with words that haven't been created yet and here we are six years later and they have not yet appeared. I just know that I am humbled that you chose me to be your husband and to do this thing called life together. I am nowhere near the perfect husband nor father but I am working on it every day and I am grateful that you choose me still. Everyday. Thank you for the gift of you, sweetie. Three years ago today God saw fit to bless the lives of my wife Farran and I with a daughter whom we would name Samara (Protected by God) Shiloh (Gift from God/Place of Peace). From day 1 we knew that she was special and she continues to amaze and enrich our lives daily. She is smart, beautiful, talented, loving, fierce, compassionate, hilarious, and a force to be reckoned with (I guess it is no coincidence that she was born on the day Hurricane Sandy made landfall in DC). I often tell people that on the day she was born I felt like another part of my heart opened up; one that I didn't have access to before. I am a better man than I was before she arrived and every day I strive to be a better father because of her. That's my baby; my Sweetpea; my heart walking around wide-eyed and meeting the world...and oh how I love her. Happy Birthday to my little lady. #Threedom is here!

There have been a lot of love declarations from me about her first from the @BuzzFeed "What's Your HBCU Love Story?" Article last week and now this story on Bet.com courtesy of the incomparable and indefatigable Kenrya Rankin Naasel @kenrya (seriously, she does it all- author, journalist, mother, doula, etc.).
