Dr. Abbot x Reader- Where we left off Chapter Three
You never imagined yourself working in a hospital, but something about helping children in need pulled you in and refused to let go. Now, as a Child Life assistant at Allegheny General Hospital, you take pride in bringing comfort and laughter to young patients during their darkest moments. Your bubbly personality and unwavering compassion make you easy to trust ā and hard to forget.
Especially for Dr. Abbot.
Your past with Jack was never simple, and working side by side only makes it harder to ignore the feelings still lingering beneath the surface. When a difficult case puts both your hearts and strengths to the test, old wounds begin to resurface. As emotions run high and the stakes grow even higher, youāll have to decide if some connections are meant to be left in the past⦠or fought for.
Set in the world of The Pitt, this story explores healing, second chances, and the fragile line between professional duty and matters of the heart.
Pushing against the desk I lean fully back into my chair, the plush back rest concave to my form giving my back the necessary support that Iāve been craving since coming back into the office. Rubbing my eyes the release of euphoria encompasses both eyes as I push in further, digging into the soft tissue to relieve the stinging that has been present for quite some time. Even though Iāve been doing day shift for a few weeks now, the last hour of my shift is like pulling teeth.Ā
Pulling away from my eyes I stare down at the paperwork littering my workspace, small sparks dance around the corners of my eyes indicating I really shouldnāt have been rubbing them for that long. Nonetheless, I canāt keep postponing my work. I've already been finding lame excuses to not leave my office like going over files from last week's shift, or going through old paperwork and organizing patients by color coding their floors, or going through the shelves and making a list of what items we can ask to be donated. Which is what Iāve decided Iāll be doing at this very moment.Ā
Standing up from my chair I grab a blank notepad from underneath a random pile of paperwork and slowly make my way down each shelf, making useless notes about how we are missing minor items from board games. Running a hand through my hair I laugh at how stupid Iām being right now, am I really going to let a single man make me hide away in my office? Itās not like heās going to actually bother to find me here, so why the hell would he try and find me in this entire hospital. But in the back of my mind his words replay in my mind, āIāve been meaning to call youā and how stupidly good he looked while saying that. Closing my eyes I envision how his combed salt and pepper hair would look as I dig my finger tip through it, messing up his composed facade and making him lose himself by the mere touch of me. My chest tightens at the thought, my neck forms goosebumps as I reminisce on how I do know how good it feels to dig my fingers through his hair. But most of all how good it feels to have his mouth on mine, I wish I could go back, to experience it just one more time.Ā
Taking a deep breath the ticking of the clock resets my mind as Iām reminded of where I am, and not where I want to be. Clutching the note pad I look back to the shelf thatās in front of me. As I begin to write down more items thereās a knock on the door, taking a breath I sense of relief fills my mind as whoever is at the door will offer me an escape from my mind and the memories that rush through. Telling them Iāll be there in a moment, I rush back to my desk tossing the notepad, and swing open the door after a moment expecting to see one of the nurses from the pediatric unit. Instead of bright colored scrubs Iām met with back scrubs and the broad chest of Dr. Abbot.Ā
Furrowing my brows I lean against the door frame, āI didnāt expect to see you here Doctor Abbot.ā I emphasize his title hoping heāll pick up that I don't wish to have a personal conversation. That we are nothing more than professionals that need to focus on our shared patient.Ā
Smirking at me he brings one of his arms to lean against the door frame as he looks at me, by the smile that is growing on the corner of his lips he can see the game Iām trying to play but is slowly losing as my attention is drawn to his bicep. āWell itās good to see you again (F/n), as I mentioned earlier I wanted to ask you a question.ā Leaning against the frame even more his bicep bulges against the sleeve of his scrubs, āSo will you let me in?ā
No, no, no! I canāt let him, all of the tears I have shed and all the restless nights I spent thinking of him would be all for nothing! I need to stay strong and put my foot down, I need to end whatever game heās trying to play. Taking a deep breath I meet his gaze once more, āFine. But only for a moment, unlike you I have things I need to get done.ā Moving aside I open the door wider so that he can enter, and I kick myself as I think about how I just went against everything I have said.Ā

Abbot stands against my desk, leaning on his hands so that he can stay facing forward to watch as I stand a few feet away. My body is positioned so my back is against a metal shelf, the cold of the metal bites into the thin parts of my clothing but it's keeping me grounded. I canāt let myself swoon over his words and get hurt again. I give him a moment to look around as I remember itās his first time in my office, but this is a moment too long that I give myself to look at him. I regret not turning the overhead lights on as his body is silhouetted by the small lamp that sits on my desk, his strong build is softened by the warm glow the lamp illuminates.Ā
Half-heartedly I listen to him make a comment about how he didnāt expect my office to be cramped, I attempt to listen but I know this isnāt what he wanted to question me about. Putting my hand up to silently command him to stop talking I interrupt him.Ā āWhat is it youād like to discuss Doctor Abbot?āĀ
His attention turns back to me, and softens into a carefree smile āI told you to call me by my first name when we're alone.ā God do I miss seeing him like this, when heās down in the ER itās like heās a completely different person.Ā
āLike I said, what is it you would like to discuss Doctor Abbot.ā Crossing my arms I won't budge, and from the giddiness thatās in his eyes this is getting him excited. He enjoys how Iām not easy, this was a known fact.Ā
Pushing off the desk he slowly steps forward to where I stand, with each step he takes the invisible thread that connects us tightens to a point of almost snapping. He stands in front of me and leans down so I can hear his lowered voice.
āI wanted to apologize for what I said in the past,ā Standing above me from what's being mirrored in his eyes we are both reminiscing on what happened, āitās been a while since I have felt these⦠emotions.ā The wall that I have been carefully building between us cracks at his words, what does he mean by all this? If he truly felt this way, then why did he turn me away. The grasp I held on my arms soften as his hands caress my shoulders, softly squeezing and pulling my body an inch forward. The wall still stands so I donāt lean into his pull, his playful smirk returns as I remain against the shelf. ā(F/n), you know I have been taught to push away all emotions. But with you, you make these emotions boil over into something almost unmanageable. I lose all sense of control when youāre around, but I lose myself when youāre not near me.āĀ
Feeling the wall crack even more I shake my head at his words, āIf you felt this way with me Abbot then why did you push me away? You told me that we couldnāt be anything more than coworkers, mind you after we had made out in some back alley of a bar.ā My words are strong as I make him see how illogical his thinking was. My voice cracks as I continue, āDo you understand how stupid this all made me feel when you said those words to me? Because how could a woman like me who is younger and barely has her life together possibly be with a man like you?ā Tears threaten to fall, because after all this time I hadnāt said those words aloud. I had always repeated them in my mind hoping they werenāt true.Ā
āYou are mistaken (F/n),ā releasing the grasp on my shoulders his hands travel to my neck where one stays firmly planted on the back, as the other mores to caress my cheek āI donāt have it together, and in fact Iām barely hanging on. But with you I feel like thereās a chance for me to be human again, so when I say this I truly mean it as a broken man.ā Once again he tugs at my body to move closer and this time I listen, my arms fall and grasp onto the fabric on his chest. āI donāt regret a single thing we shared with each other, you are the reason I donāt jump from this damn building after every shift. I want you to be with me (F/n), and I want you all for myself.āĀ
Swallowing hard my breath quickens as he stares intently at me, there isnāt even a hint of a possible lie. He has meant every single word he said⦠and with that the wall I had forcefully put between us crumbles as I pull him closer. Whispering as our faces draw near I smile like a damn fool, āThen take me. Iām yours Jack.āĀ
Thereās no hesitation as his lips come crashing into mine and were left to mindlessly attempt to crawl into each other's skin, it seems like on both ends we canāt be close enough. Even with our lips rapidly pushing against each other he craves more of me, as thereās no hesitation to him biting down on my lower lip. I gasp and he takes the opportunity to welcome himself into my mouth. Our tongues dance in a familiar beat, one that we had before but this one is different. This time around he has no self control, last time his hands stayed where they currently are but at this very moment the hand that had been caressing my face moves to grab my ass. The pleasure that erupts from my throat only fuels him more, my mind is no longer functioning as he is all I can think about. Iām flooded with emotions that are so strong I donāt know what to call them, is it need? No, that isnāt strong enough for what I feel for him at this moment. Iām lustful to have Jack all to myself at this very moment.Ā
Releasing my grip from his chest one hand firmly grabs hold of his bicep and selfishly squeezes on the muscles that ripple at each squeeze he gives my ass, as the other hand makes quick work to tangle itself in his hair. This is what I have been dreaming of since the moment I met him. To be tangled in the mess that is Doctor Jack Abbot, and to seek pleasure in what I know he can deliver.Ā
