I lied to myself for a lot of my adult life ... thinking it was better to distance myself from my family -for a lot of reasons- but mainly because I'm gay. After leaving 17 years ago, I decided to stop lying and try to reconnect with my family. Mannnn.. it was the best trip I've had back home yet. I thank God for blessing me with an understanding, loving and beautiful family. I'm so glad that I didn't let this distance continue on because it was starting to be detrimental to my being. The stories we tell ourselves help us cope sometimes, but those same stories can also suck you into endless cycle of doubt...
