Yeah sorry I went back to work just before christmas and it's been very full on/busy (and working with my injury has presented unique challenges on top of everything)

I also have one of my specialty exams in less than two weeks so have been busy studying for that and have not even opened Google docs for a month. Once that exam is done I'll be back I promise!

I keep going back and forth with it in my head over the final chapter count actually lol. On one hand I feel like I should prolong it a bit so the ending is more earned and satisfying, but on the other hand I first posted this fic almost 5 years ago and with my job and all finding time to write is near impossible so I just want to finish it so want to just stick to the original chapter count. I haven't reached a decision yet, we'll see as I write.

Hello! Really enjoyed the newest chapter for Until the Rainbow. Just a heads up, I noticed a discrepancy in the chapter that I hope you are okay with me pointing out. See below.

“she was a grown twenty-seven year old with life experience and not the eighteen year old college freshman she was last time she went through a break up with Peter, things were supposed to be different now.”

But she wasn’t 18 during her last break up. Last break up with Peter was a few years after college. If she is 27, and she had broken up with Peter now 2.5 years based on what was said in the last two chapters, then she was 24-ish, right? Again, just something I noticed. Thanks.

With regards to your question this is probably my fault for not making it clearer in the writing. But when MJ is talking about the "last time" her and Peter went through a break up she means the last time before this most recent break up (which they had as adults out of college as you rightly pointed out), and that last time would have been before they went to college when they were 18.

Thematically think of it this way: as made clear in chap 16 MJ is not totally over Peter or at the very least didn't feel a sense of closure, and as such their most recent breakup 2.5 years ago as adults is still something that's at the forefront of her mind (in chap 16 I talk about her not having even properly realised just how much time had actually passed since said breakup until Harry asks her to move in with him) so it's still kind of recent/fresh in her mind in that way

Not sure that makes sense or makes things any clearer?

Ohhh! Just read your response to anon about what Peter said at the end of ch 16. I also wondered what he said. So many possibilities ran thru my head and I can respect your decision not to reveal it. Don’t think it’s you being mean at all. In my mind, given his sadness based on your description of shiny eyes, my guess was maybe an apology or words of regret but also that he was trying now or trying to be better. And I think it was meant and said more for himself than for MJ to hear. Just my guess but honestly can’t wait to hear what happens next! Thank you again for bringing this story back to life!

!!!! This is exactly why I chose to have MJ not hear what he said, ultimately it wasn't something plot-wise she needed to hear at that point after their conversation

Just read ch 16. Amazing as always. Loved having Peter back. Are you willing to share what Peter said to MJ as she walked away at the end??? Can’t stop thinking what it might have been, especially since you described him w shiny, swollen eyes as they said their goodbyes. Ugh the angst. I love it! And I love this story.

So I did have what he would have said in mind when I wrote it but I'm not gonna say, not because I'm being mean (well, maybe a little bit) but because I want people reading to fill in what they think he said themselves based on how they read the scene

In any case, what he said will determine where their relationship goes going forward so 🤫

Even at such a young, ripe age, MJ knows she’s likely going to love Peter Parker forever, even when she’s old and greying and they’re each married to someone else, and that is the worst part of all this.

Or he could tell him how much he fucking misses him, how much having the most coveted culinary job in the country, and all the accolades and awards he’s won for his cooking, all means nothing to him when compared to his big brother’s approval, or when compared to just having Mikey still be here with him, alive and whole.

In the end, with his vision blurry from his tears and his hands shaking from his barely contained emotions, all he manages to text is this:
