What are the best written TV shows on now or recently? I provide a list broken down by genre and including just one winner and one runner up. Let me know here what you think of my choices, which ones you would second, and what TV series you think is missing. The best written TV shows may not necessarily be the ones that are the “best” or most critically acclaimed, but they have writing that is crisp, deep, and insightful.
We think that Grandfathered, which airs on Tuesdays at 8pm on Fox is the best new comedy...start with the fact that John Stamos is the lead character and once again shows how well he can handle a comedy role. Add the talented Josh Peck (who really surprises as Stamos’ son), Christina Milian, and Paget Brewster and we have the makings of a real hit.

It sounds silly, and you hve to wonder if it will be successful. A show about a superhero very few people know about. But on the other hand it seems intriguing and the previews suggest that it could actually be good. Each fall there is a new fall show that exceeds expectations and initial impressions. Do you love Chicago Fire and always want just a little more? Did you never try Chicago Fire because those types of shows do not appeal to you but medical dramas do? Did you like shows like ER and Gray’s Anatomy but want a quicker pace? Do you like watching a couple of shows that are linked? If you said yes to any of these then you might really like Chicago Med which is premiering in the NBC fall lineup. This new fall show on NBC promises a fast pace and a variety of interesting characters. I imagine that the two shows will cross promote by sharing characters and that may be fun.
