My English teacher shared some great advice today ?? so I thought I would share:

Your writing is NEVER going to be about you. It is always about the reader. Your reader(s) are going in blind, and they need that connection from your brain to theirs. If I say, “the old couple lived in a house in the woods” what I picture is different from what you do. You have to provide the details. They can’t live in your brain, so invite them in with the details you provide. Give them everything they need to understand what you’re saying. Never be afraid of details. 

We would all rather read, “the couple lived in a large house, filled with comfort items that reminded them of home, and they were surrounded by trees, of which were full and luscious.” Than, “the couple lived in a house in the woods.” Details matter. 

Don’t let them walk the path of your words alone.
