Hey everyone, I wanted to share a bit of the process behind all my work for Green Man Festival this year.
This is the lanyard image for the festival, and I’ve included a few colour concept pieces which I used to make rough posters before we nailed down a specific vibe.
As you can see, all the elements for the illustrations have all been drawn separately and layered, and I hand drew a lot of textures which we subtlety placed into the works too.
Richard ‘Orclord’ Hale has died. He was the founder of The Stuff of Legends, the first website to catalog the product lines from many different fantasy miniature companies, as well as showcasing his own personal collection. SoL also hosts complete copies of every available early Citadel catalog, flyer, and White Dwarf ad, making it an essential resource for collectors since the late 1990s.
Richard's passing coincides with the release of a book by Shaggy Dog Publishing, The Stuff of Legends: Fantasy Miniatures from the Golden Age, Volume I, filled with color photos from his collection. Richard and Citadel's Alan Merrett provide commentary, with a foreword by Rick Priestley. The book is available now through Warlord Games. Shaggy Dog previously published Talking Miniatures by Robin Dews and John Stallard, a two-volume history of Citadel and Games Workshop.
I was just browsing this the other day (and many days before that) absolute hobby legend, Rest in Peace

been listening to Uriah Heap's "Demons and Wizards" album on loop all morning. What a fuckin banger, I love music. It's especially cool seeing how this absolutely influenced future bands. "Poet's Justice" has these breathy vocals that I swear sound like they came right off a David Bowie Album. Hell, "All My Life" could have come off Iron Maiden's titular self titled album. Anyway, enough talking out my ass. I just think it's neat to discover old media that absolutely whips ass.
It also feels really lame to discover old stuff like, I'm the last person on earth to listen to this stuff. Which isn't true but I just know there's people who've been hearing this music all their lives and not thinking anything of it. Keeping it from me.... bastards!
