How many colors do you see?
8167, Glass House by Philip Johnson, photograph by James Welling, 2008
Based on this found photo of Mr. I'm-So-Well-Put-Together-Yet-Slightly-Disheveled, I've collected a few photos I think best represent his space.
He'd have an overall clean aesthetic, void of all intentional decor, I mean, does this guy look like he's interested in decorating? The few knickknacks randomly placed on shelving were likely gifts from a lady or two. He doesn't accumulate stuff, instead invests in a few very high quality pieces. His place would be sparse, with industrial elements in moderation. He has that Hollywood sort of luck, and just happened to find the most incredible loft space, to further convince us that he is not into "pretty" things. However, little does he know, his place is to die for and I've fallen in love.
Books are Sexy
I wrote a post a year ago about my goal of designing a bookstore. In January, I mentioned it again as something I'd choose to do over any restaurant or bar project. And then today, this showed up on my news feed.
This is Cărtureşti Carusel. located in Bucharest, Romania. It is a stunning example of what could be if we dare to take a chance.
Bookstores are not dead. With the proper make over, Bookstores can thrive right along side the digital world. And, oh my god, I MUST take part in that!
Creative Play in Fashion
This is a rather remarkable approach to connecting with consumers through creative play. There's just aren't enough one-of-a-kinds in today's world, and for understandable reasons. But I look at what modern technology allows us to do and think, there's definitely room for more play!
For The Love Of Symmetry
Sit back and fall in love with this collage of symmetrical center shots by Wes Anderson.
Project | Panteon Woods Independent Film, Set Design
There's so much creativity brewing in my house as my boyfriend Michael Ramova, love of my life, world's finest undiscovered talent behind the camera, wraps up his feature length film, Panteon Woods.
Story's premise: "Two girls and a hunter go deep into the woods searching for a legendary werewolf."
I took a stab at set design for one of the story's characters I found most entertaining, played by Chris Swensen. And after tonight's sneak peek at the untouched footage, I can say, the character did not disappoint.
I've not been privy to the entire script, but I'm told it's full of unexpected twists. Like Redvolver Studios for updates on the film.
Film Leads: Heather Jane Farr, Richard Wotkun, Nixon Vicci Directed/Produced by: Michael Ramova
A work in progress for upcoming independent film.

I like the mix of elements in both photos. Rather than pigeonholing yourself into a singular style that can read flat and uninspired, try combining your favorites from different designers, aesthetics or time periods. The combination of the Saarinen dining table, traditional settee, and whimsical pendant fixture create a relaxed and fuss-free environment.
I went through a phase in college where I was obsessed with the photography of furniture and accessories. In my mind each unique object is like a person. Each has a story to tell. Each has a personality and attitude waiting to be appreciated. To the untrained eye, it is merely an inanimate object that's sole purpose in this world was to serve some kind of function. The best photography will not only reveal the objects truth, but will elicit a passionate emotional response where there was once none. Photos: Fork Lamp, a Diesel and Foscarini Collaboration

Layers and Textures create visual interest and depth. Done in a cohesive manner, it is both complex and simple creating a a look that is timeless.

Be carefree...
I too have several framed pieces of art and photographs just leaning against the wall on my dresser, honestly it's more to do with the fact that I didn't feel like getting out the hammer, nails and laser level at the time. Being carefree has never looked so intentional.

I've been having fun connecting the dots between breathtaking fashion photography and interior images. The two images, originally from separate ends of the online universe have come together to form a unique relationship.

Bold, unexpected and stripped of unnecessary extras, this pair makes one sexy statement.
I love a good book, and while I am reading more and more on my iPad, nothing seems to replace the good old paperback. As a young one, Barnes & Noble was the place to be on a Friday night. I remember the routine being something like dinner out with the family, then trip to the bookstore, straight to the back area where all the children's books called out to me with funny titles and charming stories. While today, I see the store a little differently then I did at age 6. I can still pick out the elements that made this little girl swoon.
Between the chocolate color palette of the seemingly endless wooden shelves, and the aroma of espresso and coffee, I was convinced that it was the most charming place my Midwest town had to offer. And back then, they were generous with their upholstered seating options offering lounges and chairs at nearly every turn.
I recently discovered photos of Luytens & Rubinstein bookshop in London. Talk about charm. It embodies everything a bookstore should be. And then it hit me -my latest desire. I must design a bookstore. A quick search for bookstore Interiors had me realizing just how particular I am when it comes to the bookstore experience. I long for that old world charm, but love the lighter modern aesthetic of today. I think the two would make a beautiful baby. All too often bookstores wind up looking as big box and corporate as every other major retailer. In fact, I hate to even call a bookstore a retailer. Those two words should be kept as far apart as possible.
Above are some of my favorite found photos. Surely the bookstore can survive the digital world, I believe the right interior can save anything.
