Weird question: Does Eridian!Grace ever get like times where he just wonders if this is all some sort of dream or nightmare he’s gonna wake up from? Or that reality simply doesn’t feel real? Like this is all too good to be true?

Just a really, really random thought I had

it takes a long time for everything to feel real. it takes a long long time to feel like himself in his new body. he spends a lot of time zoning out- observing his claws and carapace, running fingertips over himself and methodically flexing his new steam powered joints. it's not really too good to be true, just so crazy and different he has trouble rationalizing it for a bit.

I have very normal feelings about your Eridian Grace AU, I love it a normal amount and I would love to have some very normal conversations about it. I do not bite.

Here's some fanart and thoughts

The grammar accuracy is flipped because the comic is made from the Eridian perspective. Grace is still learning how to use the language properly. He gets his tones mixed up but he knows all the right words to use.

He knows how Rocky refers to him and Adrian together but he has yet to clarify what it means exactly. (I imagine the Eridian language has something fun going on with pronouns and names considering how much Rocky goes back and forth between saying "Rocky" and "I" in the movie. He clearly isn't saying his full name most of the time. Adrian's full name is probably 5 pet names weaved together)

Grace wants to make his own stuffed animals because he misses softness of things. Even if the feelings are a bit more dull, it's the mental comfort that matters. He tries to remember the colours of the fabrics and uses the "seeing" texture tech, but it's imperfect and without seeing colours he'll sometimes get them wrong. Not that he can tell.

It's supposed to be a fox.

Sewing is a good dexterity practice for him (I'm gifting him this hobby because I also made stuffed animals before)

"Can you sing me more?" for "Can you tell me more?"

Grace still feels himself make human expressions, inside his mind.

I gave Grace the shape of the hair I usually draw for his humansona.

I think your AU is really cool, and I would like to be friends and talk about ideas and headcanons, if that would be okay with you ^u^

do you think eridian grace has an echolocation impairment/disability? he needed glasses as a human, and also i think generally he still won’t really be used to using echolocation, so i feel like he at the very least won’t be able to “hear” as far as normal eridians can.

because his body is basically lab grown, he doesn't physically have any hearing impairment- they made sure he's a perfectly normal and healthy average Eridian! but your right- he is not at all used to Eridian hearing. he actually has trouble with just how powerful his new hearing is- often getting overwhelmed by how far he can hear and how many different frequences he can hear at once. (Grace wears thick clothing to dampen the noise, like here)

Eridians can have up to three different conversations at once. Graces human psyche would not be at all used to hearing that- let alone responding to all of them at the same time. his Eridian brain would be able to hear and comprehend the words- but it would take him a while to take it all in and come up with a response one at a time. so, he basically has the Eridian equivalent of an auditory processing disorder.

his students forget this very often and frequently talk over each other, thinking he can respond to all of them easily :]

this ask is so strange... I'm like not on Instagram at all I kind of hate it :3 my most active account is my LPS insta which I do update sometimes, and I enjoy posting on <3 but my art account is blah. like so blah there's not really a bio to update. having way more fun on tumblr anyway so ! yeah !!

Grace has pebble instincts to hide under bigger parent eridian. Rocky is around the same size as him, but Adrian... Adrian is a bit bigger.

You’re so right. Adrian is happy to help!! though I think Grace would prefer just to cuddle against them- he gets the same safe feeling without being so embarrassed :3

Also sketching them together made me realize Grace has slowly morphed into a different shape and now he and adrian look really similar … oops….. might need to rework some designs!

I like your idea about Eridian Grace doing involuntary hatchling/pebble things. Any more headcanons for it 👀 plz?

YES !!!! here is grace getting scared and hiding under a workbench!

baby Eridians are tiny and vulnerable, so some of their first instincts are "get under something, your very small and you're gonna get squished or eaten!" when pebbles first hatch they want to get under an adult- usually a parent- but the pebbles don't know how to walk immediately so the parents will walk and stand over them. this is basically how babies and parents' bond. ducklings know the one they follow is mom, and pebbles know the one standing over them keeping them save is mom <(gender-neutral)

So! I think Grace probably has some moments of feeling a bit overwhelmed, maybe in new places or big crowds. it's an intrinsic primal survival instinct, Eridians literally grow out of it when they get big and won't get trampled. the artificial growth of Graces body kinda skipped all that so I think some of the "I am so small and fragile" feelings remain. he might also forget how big he is while really panicked and wedge himself somewhere and get stuck.

and while panicked like this he wouldn't really be able to focus on speech :3 poor guy

Life on Erid! the weird alien fauna!! so cool!!! Rockys there too for scale :3

things ive been thinking bout in no particular order

radial symmetry. it's actually been hard to get out of the mindset of down the middle symmetry that the majority of earth life has- you'll see on some of these I couldn't help but break it and give them different limb structures- it's also been tough cuz ill sketch a critter and go "man this just looks like a really unique Eridian" and have to change enough to make it look like an actual animal

apposable thumbs. humans became so advance in large part to us evolving apposable thumbs, I realized on Erid it doesn't have to be the same. most predatory creatures on Erid have the same claw/grasping structure. Eridians had no evolutionary reason to have a more advance way of grabbing stuff- they became advanced for other reasons

life made of nonorganic material. Eridians are made of mostly heavy metals and minerals. what else can life use as building materials on Erid? there could be long fibers made of a silica- making a fiberglass like material, steal made thin and flexible like wool, polymers forming a natural flexible plastic, etc.

haven't really thought about specific predators and prey (yet,) just kinda making fun shaped guys and thinking about how they move around :) also not a biologist or a chemist or anything like that! just a creative with too much time and an interest in speculative biology - combine with my obsession with this silly alien best friend story <3

also want to sketch some potential domesticated animals, farm livestock, working breads, pets!!! stay tuned :3

Was inspired by the wonderful post by @hailed-marys so me and @sam-i-am-27 got possessed by the demons and came out with this.

HC list under the cut

* Astrophage is more like a virus that either alters people, causing them to commit crimes or violent acts, or a power that supervillains are starting to use.

* Grace is still a middle school teacher who got bitten by the spider, obviously.

* Adrian is the one who stitched up the suit (the Aunt May of this universe).

* He has all the perks of a normal Spider-Man, but he's still Grace, so he's incredibly clumsy. He does have a super-strong spider sense, and that's what saves him 100% of the time, but he absolutely does not have the agility. When adrenaline kicks in, he can do anything, but otherwise he'll trip over the most ridiculous things.

* He was wearing his yellow raincoat the first time he saved someone, so now he wears it over his suit (along with his white Converse).

* The spider was discovered by SHIELD (which is undercover as a scientific research facility that Grace works for part-time). After the original test subjects (who were only able to survive the spider mutations if they possessed a specific gene) were killed in an attack, Eva delivered the spider to Grace so he could be bitten before other villains got their hands on that power. (My boy gets unwillingly turned into a savior in every universe.)

* Simon is still an ex-convict who, in exchange for his freedom, is asked by the evil company of the day to test a series of mines infected by what appears to be blood from a meteorite (which eventually turns out to be the symbiote Ellie!).

* At first, they wanted to kill each other, but they end up becoming besties.
