Timber had been sitting on the couch  by the fire doodling in his sketchbook when he heard the knock. He lifted his head with a puzzled look and stared at the door for  moment. Gloriosa hadn’t been expecting someone, had she? Setting aside the pad and pencil he stood from the couch and moved to the door. 

“Just a second,” he called as it took a moment for him to unlock the door. “Can I help you with som-” he began as he opened the door, but stopped as a smile immediately spread across his face when he laid eyes on Twilight. 

“Twilight! You made it!” he grinned, stepping from the doorway and wrapping his arms around her. He was ecstatic to see her after he had been told she wasn’t able to make it up there. “I thought you were going to that college thing with your brother this weekend.” He kept her in the embrace for a moment longer before pulling back, his hands lingering on her sides.

Twilight fidgeted excitedly as she waited for Timber to open the door. She heard him yell and stayed quiet, wanting to surprise him. When he opened the door she giggled for a moment. “Surprise.” She said softly as he stopped mid sentence.

She giggled more and wrapped her arms around him to return the hug. She pulled back a little and looked up at him before explaining. “Yea I was but my brother actually forgot about something he had to do with Cadence so I didn’t have to go. I figured I would surprise you and go with our original plans for this weekend.”

She gave a proud smiled as she looked up at him. “So did it work? Are you surprised?” She asked with a soft chuckle.

“When was the last time you slept?”

“Last night, although I’m not sure you could really call it sleep,” he sighed as he looked at her tiredly.

“No, it’s alright Twilight. I can always nap later after you leave. I don’t want to waste you trip here,” he explained to her with a slight frown. He was tired but he didn’t want to inconvenience her by napping the whole time she was there.

Twilight just shook her head with a soft smile. “Any trip up here to see you is never a waste.” She said. She thought for a moment before getting an idea. “How about this for a compromise. We can pack a picnic and take a walk out somewhere and have lunch and take a nap under one of the tree’s on our walk?”

“It’s really not that hard once you get used to it,” Timber said as he got the his feet. He had been sitting at the end of the dock with Twilight as they laced up their ice skates. He moved in front of her and offered both hands to help her up.

“Glorisa and I skate on the lake every year. I guess you could say it’s like a winter traditon of ours,” he explained. For the first time this winter the ice had become thick enough to skate on and his sister had said it was alright to go skating. Luckily for Timber it was also perfect timing. Twilight has convinced her parents to let her stay at the cabin for the weekend and he was able to surprise her with it.

“All you really have to be cafeful of is falling down, but don’t worry. I won’t let you fall,” he assured her with a warm smile.

Twilight listened to Timber intently as she laced up her skates. She had never gone ice skating before so this was all new to her. She asked cautiously. She smiled and took his hands as he helped her up.

“It sounds like a good tradition Timber. I just hope the ice is thick enough.” She said, showing her small bit of worry that was hidden within her excitement. She was happy her parent’s let her stay with Timber for the weekend. She smiled as she stepped onto the ice for the first time. Hearing his comment she looked back at him.

“You promise you won’t let me fall?” She asked with a soft chuckle.

Twilight put the finishing touches on the ribbon of her gift before placing it in her bag. It was a long bus ride back to Camp Everfree but she really wanted to surprise Timber. Originally she had other plans for the weekend of their anniversary but they got cancelled so now she was free to visit him.Smiling softly she stared out the window and watched the trees as she continued her trip.

As the bus arrived Twilight gave a proud smile. Standing up she stretched before getting off the bus and collecting her other bag. She looked around as she took in the fresh air and sunshine around her. Picking up her bag she made her way to Timber’s cabin and gave a soft knock.
