What you need to know about the AU
The burning in Marvin's eyes persisted as he sighed and closed the spellbook.
He waved the seeing spell off and stood, blowing out candles on the way to open the curtains.
It was a lovely day outside. The smell of the autumn air came through the open window, filling the room and calming his nerves.
He could hear Jackie training with Chase downstairs as he turned back around, picking up the spellbook to put it away.
The sounds of footsteps approaching his door caught him off guard. It sounded like Henrik, but he was supposed to be at work.
He waited quietly. His room was nearly completely silent. All he could hear was his heart beating and the birds outside.
His door creaked open slightly, and he heard Henrik softly say, "Don't fire anything at me. I'm coming in."
With a relieved sigh, he took a few steps forward then stopped.
"Why aren't you at work?"
"Why are you up here by yourself?"
"I was trying to-"
"I know what you were doing." He cut him off. "We talked about this."
"I think I found something!" Marvin held up his spellbook. "Read page 467."
There was a moment of silence as Henrik took the book and flipped through it.
Marvin waited patiently for Henrik to say something, anything.
A sigh escaped his lips as he shut the book and set it down. "Marv, that's not going to work. The last one didn't."
"But if we just-"
"No. We can't risk it. We need to wait until The Elders get here. You promised you would."
Picking up his spellbook, he turned towards Henrik.
"Who knows when they'll get here. We need to try something."
"No. I'm taking this until they arrive. You made a promise, and I'm not letting you break it."
"Hen-"
Marvin couldn't even react before he felt the spellbook disappear from his hands. He heard Henrik walk across the room before shutting the door behind himself.
A frustrated sigh escaped Marvin. The Elders could take forever to get there. They didn't have the time to wait. Who knows what Anti was putting Anthony through.
Some background information on The Spellcasters, mentioned here.
As mentioned in that post above, it's the network of magic users.
It's run by a council of the oldest magic users in the world, known as The Elders.
They operate out of Ireland, only leaving if a new magic user is discovered or a current magic user is in trouble.
Because there are so few users left, they take every precaution they can to protect the sacred practice. They have a set of rules in place. They go as followed:
No use of magic in front of non-users (with few exceptions, such as family).
Dangerous spells require special permission from The Elders, to prevent injury of user or non-users.
Disregard for your own, or other people's safety will result in investigation.
Breaking any of the rules can result in banishment.
Marvin has been considered for a place in the council, but that is to be determined later on.
The Elders were partly to blame for the explosion. They gave him the wrong instructions for the spell he used.
When they found out about it, they took full responsibility and even offered to fly out and help him learn how to practice magic in a way that would help him, now that he was blind. He declined their offer, but it still stands to this day.
He grew up on a small farm in Ireland. They didn't have very much and they were struggling to get by. Days went by without food.
This hardened him, made him cynical. Every day that went by was a living hell. He just wanted it to end.
When he was a teenager, a stranger offered him a solution. If he killed his family, he could leave that life. Live somewhere wealthier. He wouldn't worry about a shortage of food or being too cold at night to sleep.
So he took up the offer. He killed his family while they were asleep. In the morning, he fled his little farm to seek out the stranger.
But the stranger fell short on his promise. Left Anti out in the street without a family or home to go back to.
This tore him apart from the inside. He was furious.
Years went by. Anti roamed from place to place, picking fights with anybody he could.
Eventually, a fight went too far, and as he bled out on the ground, all he could do was laugh
Hey, sorry I haven't been posting here lately. Life stuff got in the way and I haven't had any inspiration or motivation. I'll try to get back to it soon.
