JILY
JAMES POTTER & LILY EVANS
PINTEREST INSPIRATION:
jily are so gentle none of u understand. like theyll act loud and teasing and playfight in public but in reality theyre so sweet with each other. its all soft caresses and tender kisses. theyre so soft and gentle and warm with each other and neither could imagine acting any other way
something old
When the Evans girls were little, they each had charm bracelets and would buy charms for each other for every occasion - birthdays, Christmas, vacations, just because. At the time it didnât seem like a big thing, but it was nice, having something for just the two of them, some piece of fancy jewelry they could wear when they played wedding under the big oak tree and promised to be each otherâs Maid of Honor, some bond between the two of them that seemed as unbreakable as the metal of their charms.
Years later, Lily decided that her old bracelet, silver and gold and heavy with charms - would be just the thing to wear on her wedding day. Tuney wasnât invited - not that sheâdâve come anyway, not that sheâdâve willingly spent that much time with freaks - no muggles were invited, not even her parents, because it just wasnât safe. Instead, the Evansâ and Potters had come over for tea a few weeks before the wedding. Instead, Sirius would be walking Lily down the aisle before taking his place as Jamesâ best man, more of a sibling to Lily than Tuney was. Instead, Lily would have no Maid of Honor at her wedding. Instead, sheâd have her three best friends as bridesmaids, and the bracelet from her sister as a piece of her family.
something new
Lilyâs dress was floor length, which she figured meant she could wear whatever shoes she wanted. Marlene bought her some deep brown combat boots, and together with Mary, Lily embroidered panels of flowers to cover the sides, while Dorcas crocheted her laces out of fine white yarn. To finish them off, each girl carved her favorite swear word into the soles, and Lily christened them her stomping boots.
They were colorful, and fun, and after the wedding Lily intended to wear them to fight in when the Order called for her. The shoes, Lily decided, were the perfect thing to get married in - uniquely pretty, but with spunk, and fitting for a wartime wedding. The first time Lily wore them was on her wedding day, and a month later, they were completely broken in, she was fighting so much.
something borrowed
Lilyâs dress was not made for her. Sheâdâve had one made, as money wasnât an issue, but by then Diagon Alley was too dangerous to walk through and she didnât want to put a seamstress in danger by bringing them to the flat she lived in with the girls. And anyways, Mrs. Potter didnât have a daughter to pass the family dress down to, and she was offering, and the dress was wonderful. Timeless really, all creamy white and thin, thin lace with three quarter sleeves and a bodice that hugged her tight before falling down past her feet in soft waves.
And so, instead of buying a new dress off the rack like Tuney had done, or having one made like James had suggested, Lily wore her mother in lawâs wedding dress and her own motherâs wedding shawl and embroidered the ends of her long, long veil to match her boots, not that anyone would be able to tell anyways, and she was radiant.
something blue
James had picked out Lilyâs ring, and the stone in the center was a blue green gem, so for a while she considered making that her something blue, until her mother told her it simply wouldnât do. Then she thought some of the flowers sheâd embroidered could be her blue, but Mary did not agree. Dorcas said the topaz in her bracelet from Tuney wasnât enough, and Marlene laughed in her face when she said sheâd just go hide in a freezer for a while and become blue all over. Finally, shockingly, Sirius thought of a solution right as she gave up and decided to walk down the aisle without completing the set.
He slipped a sky blue handkerchief into her hand and winked, and maybe she had used it to dab at her eyes when she teared up during Jamesâ vows, and maybe she had had to pass it to him when he started outright sobbing during hers, but all anyone who had attended the wedding had to say was that the ceremony was beautiful and they had all shed a tear or two for such young love, in danger every morning when Lily pulled on her boots and every night when James inevitably misplaced his specs.

The biggest misconception in public schools is that literary analysis is about proving you can be right or wrong about a book you read
Literary analysis isnât about the book
Itâs not even about being right
Itâs about performing an investigation and presenting your case to the jury
It doesnât matter if your defendant killed that guy or not. If you can convince the jury he didnât, youâve won
And the incredible life skill of spinning bulletproof bullshit out your ass with a handful of facts and a prayer is soooooooo much more valuable than anyoneâs ever gonna tell you
If the average tweenager knew that good media analysis meant you could force your English teacher to admit that fuckin- (rolls dice) Whatâs Eating Gilber Grape is a metaphor for (rolls dice again) Why the crack cocaine epidemic is good actually- we would have far better literacy and critical thinking skills as a nation. And I stand by that
You could develop the magical psychic and illusory power to force the middle aged bitchfuck who makes you raise your hand and beg for permission to take a shit accept the premise that Cocomelon is a subversive and scathing artistic commentary on the pitfalls of modern democracy. Chat GPT essay engines are stealing this from you
When James and Lily go on their first date, Lily doesn't quite understand why James is absolutely livid that a stray dog is following them around Hogsmeade.
You can believe in magic, but watch out.
It's fun learning astrology until you start to make broad assumptions about real people's behavior based only on their birthday.
It's fun to speculate about alien civilization until you say early cultures weren't competent enough to build their own pyramids or until scientologists stalk you for every penny you have.
It's fun dressing symptoms in mystical language like "empath" or "indigo child" until you go through life undiagnosed, unaccomodated and feeling less and less human.
It's all fun and games until Tiktokkers tell you hallucinations are actually attunement with a higher dimension and that you should stop taking your antipsychotics.
It's fun to think about possession and changelings until mom starts trying to "save" her child's soul or dad kills his family for having "serpent genes."
It's fun to see natural formations as if they were manmade until you start believing cultists when they say flying saucers are Antarctic Nazis.
You can believe in magic. It's fun to believe in magic. Believing in magic is valuable stimulation. But watch out. Remember your reality checks. There's a lot of cults and scams and white supremacists out there who want to sell you something, and that longing for magic to believe in is how they get you.
THE April Fool!!
a @jilymicrofics follow-up to how (in which James fixes his mess) - so
She was trying very hard not to overthink things.
So what if sheâd finally mustered up the courage to ask James out after wishing and hoping for the last two months that heâd do so and was met with⊠well, nothing in return? So what if heâd made a strangled cry and then dashed down the next corridor with the wave of students heading in that direction? Sheâd done her best to ignore him slipping into the Charms classroom five minutes late after his little detour away from her. So what, if her stoic exterior was badly hiding the fact that on the inside, her heart was cracking a little bit?
She wasnât the first girl in history to have unrequited feelings. She wasnât the first to misread a situation. She wasnâtâ
âLily!â
Lily turned around at the sound of her name on instinct, well before her brain had recognized the voice saying it. James came jogging up to her, his hair a windswept mess as usual, his tie crooked like the glasses sitting on his nose.
âLook, about earlierâIâm⊠I wasâI am a total moron. Yes, I wouldâI want to go out with you on the next Hogsmeade weekend.â
The flush in her cheeks from embarrassment darkened now in delight. âOh, all right then. Good.â
âGood.â
âYes, very good.â
James grinned lopsidedly at her, tugging a hand through his hair. âRight⊠well⊠Iâll see you⊠for our date.â
âAnd before then. Many times.â
James chuckled, color now rising in his cheeks and she was overwhelmed with the urge to kiss the uneven corners of his mouth. âOf course, yes. Erm⊠âbye.â
She watched him jog back down the hallway toward his friends, who greeted him by enthusiastically clapping him on the back and she chewed her lip to stifle a laugh.
So, it appeared, she hadnât misread the situation and he did indeed fancy her too. She just forgot about the tiny fact that he was a bit of an idiot sometimes.
Everyone keeps talking about "the writer's barely disguised fetish". But I still haven't heard about "the writer's barely disguised huge ass pet peeve"
It's a crime to leave this in the replies
Some Jily? With or without bebe Harry? đ§âđ§âđ§
Hello there đ
Since I plan to draw them with Harry one day, I figured Iâd start by drawing them during their time at Hogwarts.
You have no idea how much I love drawing Lily, it was honestly such a joy to work on this request with such an adorable couple!
I just loved the idea of James carrying her. I mean, what wouldnât he do to show off in front of Miss Evans? đ
Family Breakfast
Written for @jilymicrofics Prompt: Roast Word Count: 258
âFace it, Dad,â Harry said, taking a bite of his toast. âYou just have to accept it. Itâs not like the press can print lies in the newspaper.â
Lily walked into the kitchen, raising an eyebrow. âWhat did they say in the paper?â
âOh, nothing major,â Harry said, folding the newspaper with theatrical nonchalance. âJust that the Falconsâ senior player was named captain of the national team for the World Cup. Apparently, everyone thought he was getting ready to announce his retirement.â
âAh, yes,â Lily said, summoning the teapot with a flick of her wand. âA bold choice. Clearly hoping to go out in a blaze of mediocrityâone last limp at glory before the hip replacement.â
âIf his decrepit body can even get on a broom,â Harry muttered.
âIâm more concerned about whether he can stay on it,â Lily said, pouring her tea. âHeâll be lucky not to throw out his back during warm-ups.â
âHe definitely wonât be pulling off his famous body-blow move,â Harry added.
âNot unless he wants to dislocate his shoulder again,â Lily said with a smirk.
âHey!â James cut in, scandalized. âWhen did breakfast turn into Roast James Potter Hour?â
Harry gave him a quizzical look. âIsnât it always?â
âOh, someoneâs getting sensitive in their old age,â Lily teased, ruffling Jamesâs hair.
âIâm only 34!â James cried. âYouâre older than me!â
âAnd yet somehow,â Lily said, âI still have all my cartilage.â
Harry patted his dadâs shoulder sympathetically. âJust wait âtil the press finds out youâve started snoring loud enough to scare the owls. Thatâll be front page.â
the big three questions of media analysis: what the author wanted to say, what they actually said, and what they didnât know they were saying
for the last one i donât just mean oh the author inadvertently wrote in gay subtext or whatever iâm talking about media as a cultural artifact which can reveal a ton about societal norms, biases, ideals, etc. itâs all about positionality and an unexamined positionality is often the most revealing of all
what sort of pet names do you think james adopts for lily? i know "love" and "darling" are quite standard english ones but any others you think they may use?
okay so this is niche. but i have to give context. i think fleamont and euphemia were darling, dear, love, etc people but also i think they were âhusbandâ and âwifeâ in a quippy way people, as a reflection of the era. like âand how was your day, wife?â âoh just fine, husbandâ meaning it to be a bit silly but overall genuine and endearing. and i think jamesâs own perception of love and affection is heavily influenced by his parents SO.
i think james would absolutely turn titles into endearments. like he would be swinging into every room with, âhi, girlfriendâ or âhello, love of my life, mother of my child, most beautiful woman on earth,â to which lily would, of course, reply âhello, man who forgot to feed the catâ or âhey, howâs it going, roommate?â
