sorry there's evilbugs infesting the building we're getting rid of them but we're gonna need you to keep coming in and working in the meantime. we need your labor to help keep the evilbugs at bay. yeah and naturally anything you wear into the building is also infested when you leave. personally i'd recommend stripping when you get home then put the clothes you wore today and need tomorrow into an airtight bag-A. and then take anything you won't be wearing again and put that into an airtight bag-B. now go do the decontamination shower and then change into clean houseclothes and do whatever it is that you do between shifts. then in the morning strip again, get dressed with bag-A and any new items you need. and then yeah yep come on back into the building and help us fight the infestation. and then do it again tomorrow.

what is your opinion on anti-psychotics then?
that's a misnomer; neuroleptic drugs don't combat a singular biological state of 'psychosis' because there is no such observed or biomarked state. neuroleptics don't have good evidence for their efficacy in actually improving patient outcomes, and are known to cause a range of serious short- and long-term (including permanent!) side effects ranging from metabolic dysregulation to movement disorders (neurological damage) to sedation (they have previously been known as 'major tranquilisers').
on principle i think people should be able to use psychoactive substances of their choosing; in practice i think this is basically a moot point in regards to neuroleptics because the side effects are so common and severe, and the benefits so minimal. these are drugs that continue to be popularly prescribed because they make patients more 'compliant' -- ie, because our current social–economic situation is so profoundly hostile to variation in perceptions of reality that we render people more 'functional' when dangerously medicated into submission.
i also collected a few readings on this here.
the thing about their usage as sedatives is that there does not even need to be a pretense, on the part of the doctors prescribing them, of a patient suffering from what the name "anti-psychotic" suggests these drugs are targeting. which would not make the degree of coercion in how it is typically forced on people with more stigmatized diagnoses actually associated with psychosis any more justifiable, but it helps illustrate sedation as the goal rather than a side effect in how vulnerable populations are subjected to these drugs
atypical anti-psychotics are also approved for and continue to be prescribed to treat "aggression and self-injurious behaviour" in children diagnosed with autism for example. i was introduced to this class of drugs and kept on them for half a decade at the request of my parents, without being formally diagnosed with psychosis for the duration, for what amounted to 'disobedience and disruptive behaviour' at home. i was thirteen. my psychiatrists* enabled my parents' abuse by keeping me in a state where i was incapable of defending myself
in many psych wards the first thing they do is give you a very high dose of an anti-psychotic to make sure you won't complain too much, as it dawns on you're in a prison and all your agency has been stripped away. it doesn't matter why you're there, they don't check your file before doing it. they just do it because it's effective at keeping people quiet
* the names would change but they were unanimous in keeping me sedated against my will at the behest of my parents, no matter how much I pleaded with them. it wasn't one evil individual, old and young, men and women, they would all scoff when i described how my parents hit me and asked to stop. psychiatry as an institution enables the chemical rape of children at the hands of their parents
